Small and does the job.
My husband took this on a camping trip with our son. The quality is ok. Itâs not heavy but it did the job. It worked well on their trip. It was easy to read and was worth the money. I also liked how you can strap it on to his backpack.

I have been spending more time hiking lately and having a compass seemed like a good idea.When I go on hikes, I keep my phone with my keys and power bank altogether in my hydration pack. I do not want to chance having my phone in my pocket and have it drop in swamp water on the trail. Having said that, my phone was my primary source for orienting myself on the trail.Since I no longer use my phone I wanted something that doesnât need batteries or a GPS signal to work. Hence, the basic compass.As a test, I went on a 6 mile hike with my group and we only used my compass when we went on new trails. It worked perfectly and it was easy to read. I have to admit, there was something a little special using an analog compass. Itâs quite satisfying and I highly recommended it.The overall construction is nice and the color was vibrant (I selected the orange variant). It is super lightweight and compact, so throwing this in the pack was a no brainer.If I had a complain, it would be speed. The needle seemed to lag a little bit until it found north, but Iâm not sure if itâs the needle or Iâm just not used to old school tech.Summary: nice and cheap tool for a hiker that doesnât want to drag more batteries out to the trails.

Keeps This Traveling City Girl Oriented
Yeah, I’m learning wilderness orienteering and there’s a bit of a learning curve to use this with a topo map. But I got this because I literally have brain damage and thus have no sense of direction. I can turn toward a wall or stop in a restroom, pull this out, and quickly get reoriented without having to ask strangers for help.It’s amazing how often people say “Go north two blocks” or a map or Google tells you to head west at the next intersection. There are lame people who will tell someone wrong directions because TikTok says that’s a funny prank (yeah, no). This has saved me from having to retrace my steps over blocks and blocks.The compass is lightweight, accurate, and fits neatly in my daypack. You can’t miss the dayglo orange. There’s a hole to attach it to whatever you carry. it is lightweight plastic so don’t hurl it about.As someone who once got truly lost in a city park, I appreciate the quality and peace of mind. Beats having to call people asking “Can you describe to me step by step exactly how to get out of this mall and back to the bus stop?”

Liquid filled compass points to magnetic north. Plastic base is clear with clean markings. Lens magnifies clearly. Lanyard feels sturdy, but flexible. Bezel is firmly set and must be intentionally turned. Orienting lines are clear. No “glow-in-the-dark” features are advertised and none are present. An alternate light source will be necessary for operation in the dark. A good, basic compass.

In my youth, I used a compass in the forest, but this time I needed one just to adjust my TV antenna in line with the TV transmission towers. Simply used a map for towers locator to get the coordinates, which I got from tvfool.com.This compass is perfect and not expensive. It is reliable.

I have recently taken up hiking and had previous experience with orienteering that taught me a compass is a lightweight important safety device. Works and looks great. I love it. Don’t rely on phones with GPS in the bush. A map and compass don’t require power or a good phone signal.
