It works well, but with quirks
I’m on the fence about a 4 vs 3-star review for this drone. It’s a great device that just seems to work most of the time, but it has a few quirky issues.I’ve been flying RC planes, drones and helicopters for the past dozen years or so. I can honestly say, I’m impressed with the stability of this device. It’s pretty much a no-brainer in terms of use and control. There is a bit of a setup procedure with each use that is a bit annoying, but it’s not terrible.It has a fairly good range and will pretty much fly itself. I’m used to having to keep these things from crashing, but this thing will stabilize itself even in decent winds. It has a fly home feature and will fly home on its own if it runs into trouble with low battery or range issues – or if you just tell it to. It’s GPS guided and will fly back and land where it took off from. It’s accurate within a foot or so. I took off and landed on the back of my pickup truck tonneau cover at night! Flying is easy manually and it has 3 different speed settings.The camera is decent, but the frame rate is poor for 4K. So still images are good, but video is better in the 2.7K/25fps setting.Now for that quirkiness. The resolution setting wasn’t present on my drone/app configuration. I had to contact support to find out why. They have been great in helping out, but I had to jump through hoops to get the resolution feature to show. It turns out, at least for me, that a 128GB SD card doesn’t work. I had a 32GB SD card laying around, so I used it. It wasn’t until I formatted my 128GB SD card with a very high allocation size (exFAT + 32MB allocation size) that it was recognized and allowed the drone to pair to the controller. With this SD card format configuration, the SD Card Resolution feature appeared, and I was finally able to select the 2.7K video setting. However, once I was required to format the 128GB SD card in the software, I was no longer able to use the card as the drone formats using a 16KB allocation size which isn’t compatible with that size SD card. So, while the manual states that you can use a 128GB SD card, you can’t. My 32GB card works fine … now that the resolution feature is showing up. So, I docked a star for that. Two really, but support has been so good, I added one more star for a total or 4.I’m still working with support to understand how to firmware update. They sent me some patches, but they aren’t working for me yet. I won’t give up, though. I’m a bit invested in this drone and the price was pretty decent. It does fly well and works well with the 32GB card – which is probably big enough anyway.EDIT:Customer support was finally able to solve my firmware update issue. Now the 128GB card is working.

Iâve been an avid drone owner/operator for years. When I came across this drone I knew I wanted to add it to my ever growing collection! Iâve spent a lot of time with this drone going over All the features it offers and have been Impressed with its performance. Itâs Very Easy to Operate even if youâre new a drone operator/first time flyer. The Auto Hover feature is brilliant and takes all the stress and guess work out of your launch of the drone.The drone will stick/hold the altitude youâre flying making so youâre free to release the sticks on your RC(remote control)at this point! This drone features pretty much all the same options More Expensive drones offer except obstacle avoidance. As long as youâre familiar with the terrain youâre flying in, obstacle avoidance isnât a big deal and def not a reason for me to pass on this drone!Battery life for me with this drone has been Great! Thereâs been several times Iâve actually been able to fly longer than the listed 25 minutes per battery. If itâs extremely windy outside and youâre zipping around doing a lot of high speed flying and up and down flying, sure the battery might not get a full 25 minutes of flight, thatâs totally understandable and expected. I find the more I fly and drain my batteries, the more actual flight time Iâm achieving! The first few flights I was getting 20 to 22 minutes. Now though after many flights, battery life has improved for me!This drone checks off all the boxes for me when it comes to a great drone with good features/options. BUT, what happens if/when I experience an issue with the droneâ¦.Having a drone that functions just as youâd hope it would and then some is one part, the other part of being happy with the drone purchase is Service After the Sale!! Customer service is Highly Important to me especially for what a Quality Drone like this one cost!I had approximately one week left prior to my 30 day return policy was set to expire. I had an issue pop up with the drone in this last week of return time! I went back and forth trying to figure out if I wanted to ship it back to Amazon or give Customer Service a shot at addressing the issue. I had read in several other reviews that customer service was good. Well itâs Not just âGoodâ, its PHENOMENAL! I emailed customer service late on a Saturday. I def didnât expect a response back over the weekend and figured it would be mid week before I heard back, WRONG!! I received an email from Customer Service on Sunday(the very next day!!)Early Morning!!I want to Spotlight Customer Service Representatives âSmithâ and âJoyâ. Both corresponded with me via email several times and made me totally comfortable and at ease with contacting them instead of just shipping back the drone to Amazon. They addressed my issues and took everything over for me only wanting copies of my flight logs/records. They sent me links with detailed instructions on how to download those files and email them back to them. Iâm as thrilled with Smith and Joy as I am with the drone itself! Both were Professional, Clear, and Concise with ALL correspondences to me! I also want to spotlight others with BWINE that work behind the scenes with logistics and technical support as both did great as well!Iâm Very Happy with this drone as well as Customer Service! In my opinion, Customer Service is Equally as Important as the drone is! They took all the guess work out for me with the issue I was having being professional and fast with the entire process! This drone would make a good addition to anyones drone collection as well as to a brand new drone operator. It offers a ton of great features/options and equally Important, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, Def Recommend a Purchase!
