The knowledge in it is like a complete encyclopedia, a must-have book for cyclists!
Re-reading it over and over again will lead to new discoveries; reviewing it over and over again can also solve the bottleneck of improving physical fitness. I have read this book countless times. The chapters are arranged very well, taking you step by step into the next stage, from theory to practice, everything is covered! It is recommended that this book be regarded as an “encyclopedia worth reading and re-reading”.

Worth every penny!
I’ve been in Ironman for about 15 years and this book is a must for anyone training for a cycle even. I’ve been slack on using technology to train and this has kick started that effort. I’ve got all the power meters and gadgets, but understanding and using stuff like TSS is what I lacked.Technology and science has improved so much in the past 10-15 years in sports and this books captures and very clearly explains those details. For years I’ve been using Training Peaks and never fully understood all the scores and ratings. Now after reading this book I actually am starting to understand some of my training trends graphics which inevitably will help me train smarter.Things I liked about this book:- Detail technology descriptions that were understandable and useable- Format of this book is very clean and extremely well organized- Killer IndexFriel said in his intro that he dumped everything from the previous version except the table of contents.

Get. Fast.
This is a great resource for cyclists. This new edition is fantastic, except it lacks the nutrition chapter in the previous version. Still worth the purchase

A new take on an old classic
I’ve been using Friel’s “Cyclist’s Training Bible” to self-coach for about 10 years now – all the way from a Category 5 road racer to Category 1. Never had a coach, just a lot of motivation and Friel’s book to guide the way.I have a few older versions of this book, and I was doubtful that it was really “rewritten” – but after paging through it and comparing it to the last version I have (just got the new one today), I can say that it’s definitely a new take! It’s well worth the read, whether you own a previous edition or not. Whether you have a coach or not. Whether you are an amateur looking to go for Strava KOM’s, or an amateur racer looking to go Pro. Crit racers, road racers, hill climbers, time trialists, GC guys – everyone can learn from this book.If you have a coach, they’ve probably already read this – and if they haven’t.. probably time for a new coach! Understand this book, and you can understand why your coach is telling you to rest, why they are telling you to do workout XYZ, why they are telling you you’re peaked and ready to win.Yes some of the same old material is in here – periodization, nutrition, training plans, etc – but that material is timeless, and lays the foundation for everything else.

The workouts are tough but itâs good to know youâre on the right track
Iâm 65 an have begun to use the âBibleâ and the cycling dairy that accompanies this book. Very technical but very well explained. The workouts are tough but itâs good to know youâre on the right track. The gains that have come are amazing given that Iâm 65.

Only If Youâre Serious
Boring ! but within these pages lie the answers to many of your questions. Nothing profound but a subtle, deep kind of understanding. Sure, it is a little repetitive and heavy going in places but for the price itâs an absolute bargain. Read this, cover to cover, as I did and your cycling performance could improve, far beyond anything that a new bike or fancy carbon wheel-set could ever achieve. I am going to knuckle down now and read it all over again, itâs that good.

Detailed, yes easy to read. Solid info.
Loving this book. Itâs providing some very good info and filling in the big picture and background to a lot of the smaller training anecdotes that float around. On the downside, itâs clear that Friel has worked to keep the content updated, but it can still feel “old” in places; and the writing feels a little textbook like and verbose in places (e.g., chapter intro pages and end summaries). Those are minor quips compared to the broader content quality. I mean, Joe Friel co-founded Training Peaks!!!

O que mais gostei foi a questão de metas e objetivos, pra quem treinou com acessoria agora faz sentido tudo que me passavam.

There is a reason this book has made it to a 5th edition. At first I was surprised at how thorough and comprehensive the book was. It take a while setting up the terminology and mental attitude required for the remainder of the book. Then it sprints through the core training concepts laying out periodized training and how to layout your season. As a newer rider looking to improve, the book sets a high bar to aim for and gives you all the support you need to pursue it. You do not need to be an elite competitor, but you can adopt the mindset of one. The book breaks the training intensity/hours down for people with only a few hours a week to those treating it as a part time job.I am looking forward to applying the concepts and have seen great gains in the few weeks I have been working through the book. It lays the ground work for you to be more disciplined and methodical. The metrics and workouts provided let you shape your training while making sure you are resting and recovering. If you want to seriously train or improve your biking, read this book. Seriously. Read the book. (Warning: this book will make you want to buy a power meter, budget accordingly)
