VERY deceptive advertising requires you to spend MORE money to use the items. TOTAL FRAUD!!
So I got this to help me as I travel and work. After downloading the app for the product, it took me about an hour to get it to link to my phone because it kept taking me in a circle even AFTER I had given the app permission to use the Bluetooth, location and ALL the other permissions it said it needed. I finally got to the screen for translating and downloaded several languages I thought I might need. I then tried using the translating feature and it kept translating EVERYTHING into what appeared to be Chinese characters. No matter what I tried I could not get it to translate Spanish to English. After several attempts it then told me I was out of “translating tokens” and would need to purchase more to continue to use the earbuds and app. What a RIP-OFF!! Sending these back for a refund!! AND going BACK to Google Translate!! DO NOT BUY THESE!!

Easy to use and switch between modes
These earbuds are great for language learning, with the option to purchase offline language translation packs for additional support.

    This translator is awesome.
These were bought as a gift. My daughter said the setup was easy. She enjoys foreign languages and travel, so this translator is fun and easy to use.

great conversation translator, we’re almost there
I’m not sure how to review this because its actually two things being sold into one: the earbuds and the translator app.The earbuds are nothing special compared to others. It goes around the top of your ear and projects sound into the ear via mini speakers. It comes with a case with a digital numbers showing its available charge as well as charging indicators. I expect a better microphone on these earbuds though since it is going to be used for conversations. So far, after using it a few times with calls and also listening to music, I found it works just as well as the regular earbuds. If I have to find a complaint about it, I think it would be the bluetooth range which I found is shorter than my other bluetooth headsets. The translator app is doing most of the work here. Its free to download and did not ask for registration to use – although there is an option to create an account. The app by itself provides several free translation options as long as you have internet access With the purchase of this device, you get access to more options for online translation for a little over a year. Offline translation is not included and costs extra money.I am going to skip the free parts of the app and focus on the available translation options with this device. As described by the seller, there are 4 modes – Speaker, Touch, Free Talk and Offline mode.In touch mode, each person will put on one earbud. To speak, touch the earbud and anything said after the beep will be translated and played on both earbuds. In speaker mode, you wear both (or one) earbuds and the other person will communicate via the app on your phone. It works like touch mode except one is using the earbud and the other the phone app.Free talk mode, works like the touch mode except nobody has to touch the earbuds to speak. You just start speaking and the translator will translate what it heard from one party and plays it back to both earbuds.I did not get to test Offline mode but I suppose it works as above but doesn’t require internet access. We have tried this with multiple languages and it works really well in translating conversation. The only caveat is that there should be a pause to trigger the translation. The translation is quite fast, maybe up to a second but not longer. What’s odd though is that if you speak in a long monologue, it will still translate except its going to be summarized (probably using AI?). Its funny but its cool though. The seller promised a translator and it worked great as such. I wish it mentioned that you only get one year of use – although I’m not sure what will happen after a year, maybe it will just renew? Even if the app access expires, you still end up with a good set of earbuds.

    May work well for some.
I was really excited for these translator earbuds. After getting them charged and downloading the app I kept having problems with it saying the bluetooth wasn’t connected. I finally got it to work and since my wife is Filipina I wanted to see how well it worked. Well, it kept saying it couldn’t understand that and was basically using my phone assistant for the translation. We never could get it to recognize a language. There is also the fact that it wasn’t mentioned in the add that you have to pay almost $200 for the offline version. The earbuds themselves sound good though and as long as the bluetooth will stay connected I will use them.

Decent headphones, need an app for actual translations
So the Merrymaking Language Translation Earbuds are really just standard earbuds that you buy and then download an app (at no additional cost) for the translation services. The earbuds are pretty decent for most people – disclaimer, I am most people here and am not generally looking for the best sound quality that I can get in general. I do really like this type of earbud that doesn’t go in your ear canal, but instead rests on the outside of your ear. I find them extremely comfortable and the sound is not diminished at all with this configuration. They came with the earbuds charged and about 80% charge on the case. The case has a digital display that pops up while the earbuds are charging and lets you know what the percentage charge on the case is and which earbuds are charging. For the translation part, there is a QR code on the instructions that sends you to an app to download. You will then have to create an account, and then you can start translating.I tested these with a native French speaker, and it seems to work pretty well. From their perspective, listening to me speak in English and then to the French translation, they were pretty impressed with how well it translated. There are a couple of different modes, we couldn’t get the free conversation mode to work, where each of you have an earbud and you just talk freely and it translates once you stop speaking. I did have it working when I did a very basic test of it earlier, so I am not sure what was happening this time, but rather than mess with it we just tried a different mode. There is a second mode where again, you each have an earbud, but with this one you have to tap either the earbud or a button on the app, and wait for the beep and then speak. Each person hears the translation for the other person and the conversation shows up on the phone in a text message type format. You can also use it with speakerphone so that you don’t have to share earbuds.Overall, I think these work fairly well, headphones are pretty decent and the translation (at least for French) seems to work well. I wish it was a little more clear in the description that it isn’t the earbuds that do the translating, but an app. The instructions do say that once you have the app you can use any earbud you want. So these are a little on the expensive side for a translation app, particularly since there are plenty of free ones. And without doing a bunch of testing with the free apps, I can’t compare if it is significantly better than the free apps. But they seem to be pretty nice earbuds, so the money for those is probably worth it if you think of the translation software as a bonus that comes with them.
