Ideal for aerospace, defense, agriculture, automotive, industrial automation, and telecom sensors and video applications, its compact, space-efficient design supports miniaturisation. In contrast, power over coax streamlines product designs and reduces system complexity.

Molex, has launched its new MMCX Power over Coax (PoC) solution, featuring a patent-pending mating technique that ensures secure, stable connections while maintaining electrical ground continuity. Designed for applications requiring reliable RF connections and continuous power delivery, this compact solution is ideal for automotive LCD mirrors, driver monitoring systems, and industrial sensors.
The key features include:

- Frequency Range: DC to 6 GHz
- Connector VSWR (max.): 1.25 (-19 dB) from DC to 4 GHz; 1.4 (-16 dB) from 4 GHz to 6 GHz
- Operating Temperature: -65°C to +125°C
The PoC solution offers seamless product upgrades by maintaining backward compatibility with IEC 61169-52 MMCX jack receptacles, eliminating the need to redesign existing PCB receptacles and reducing integration costs. It is also 30% smaller than traditional MMC connectors, making it an ideal replacement for larger, heavier MCX connectors while delivering enhanced performance.
Designed for compact, high-performance applications, MMCX Power over Coax eliminates the need for separate power and data connectors, making it an optimal solution for automotive, industrial automation, and agricultural applications.
Future-Proof Solution for Expanding Applications
Beyond automotive and industrial uses, this rugged and reliable PoC solution supports a variety of miniaturized and remote devices, including:
- Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)
- Portable electronics and smart-home automation
- IoT sensors and wireless infrastructure
- GPS antennas and intelligent transportation systems
The Power over Coax right-angle and straight-plug cable assemblies are now available for multiple cable types, including RG178, Condumex RG174LL, RG316, and Dacar 462.
“Our new MMCX Power over Coax solution includes a full-locking mating mechanism, solving a common weakness in traditional MMCX plug connectors that can lead to signal interruptions and intermittent power levels,” said Roger Kauffman, Senior Director of RF Product Management and Marketing at Molex. “Over the past year, this solution has demonstrated outstanding performance in various environments, including a light sensor used in a critical industrial security application.”
