This thermostat is a beautiful design and functioning triumph. Not only for what it does, but the way we as humans interact with it. A great technology and human focused design. It makes it easy if you want to save energy/money, by tracking your usage, seeing when your system was on, what temperature it was set to, when it was changed. If you like you can have it use its motion sensing capability to determine if you are home or not, and if not, change the thermostat setting to a more energy efficient one… and when it detects you are back home, change it back. If you also have a Nest smoke detector, you can have the motion detecting capability of that to ALSO tell the thermostat if you are home, or not. I understand you can also set up the thermostat to use the location of the cell phone(s) with the Nest App on it to determine if all of them are out of the house, and then change the thermostat setting ( I have this turned off). The phone App is pretty intuitive, clean design, easy to read and control the thermostat when you are in the house or out of the house. When you log into your Nest account on a PC, you see the same thing as the App on your phone and can control the thermostat from there too. Since the thermostat has connection to the internet, it knows (and displays) the temperature outside. Using that and the indoor temperature it learns how long it will take to heat your house to your desired temperature when you increase the thermostat temperature in the winter… and it will show you the minutes it will take. It also measures and displays indoor humidity, accurately, as I have compared it against another humidity gauge. It directly and correctly controls both stages of my two stage furnace.In the app on your phone, or using your PC, you must set up the thermostat to determine if you are home or not (and change the temperature setting) based on motion it detects as you walk by it, and/or motion that your Nest smoke detector detects, and/or cell phones at home or not. I have them all turned off. I programmed a daily schedule that I want the thermostat to follow whether it thinks Iâm home or not. Unlike many other reviews who are complaining that the temperature setting keeps changing, I donât have that problem as I correctly turned off all those motion detection and cell phone detection features, and mine follows the program I set as my humble servant. And if Iâm going to me gone for a few hours, I open the App, touch AWAY, and the more energy efficient settings are used.The only thing more I could ask for from a thermostat is that it makes my lunch. Really, really nicely designed product. Worth it.

Sleeker and easier than I anticipated
I really like this thermostat and canât help but show it off to friends that stop by to visit. Everyone wants to know if Nest is as cool as it looks (itâs probably even better than you expect). The super sleek design looks great on the wall without drawing needless attention to itself.Nestâs LED display conveniently lights up the dark hallway it sits in when you walk by at night. However, itâs not so bright that I would hesitate to install it in a bedroom (it wouldnât wake you up). Having the ability to adjust the settings via the phone app or via a web portal is super slick. The fact that it has the ability to automatically switch between heat/cool modes is also very useful in spring/fall, when the weather requires heat in the mornings and AC by afternoon. It also tells you the inside humidity %, which is pretty awesome. Plus, it knows the local weather so itâs always thinking. There are a number of energy saving features and reports you can utilize as well. One of my favorite features is the ability to synchronize it to your mobile phones. If you choose to set it up, it will adjust the HVAC setting depending if youâre home or not. Yes, if you give it permission, it can detect if your familiesâ mobile phones are present and adjust the air so you arenât wasting $. Seriously, how cool is that???My big question was if the Nest would accept timer settings – or if you were forced to have it âlearnâ your preferences over time. My wife wasnât going to indulge my interest in having a smart thermostat if she was going to have to adjust the thermostat for the first few weeks. Fortunately, I was able to set up a schedule during the week and chose to let it âlearnâ our weekend routine (since I would be home to teach it on weekends). Truthfully, I havenât really messed with it more than a few times. My wife has little patience for technology when a less complicated/technological solution can perform the same task. Another nice feature I didnât know I cared about: Nest quickly âlearnsâ your home and will tell you how long till your selected temperature is achieved.I do worry about what happens in 10 years if they decide they are no longer supporting this âolderâ technology via new phone/app updates, but I guess Iâll worry about that 10 years from now (it will tell me if I am buying another Nest product when itâs time to replace this one). The thermostat unit the Nest replaced was just a builder grade 6-day timer thermostat that fulfilled its purpose. No frills, but it worked pretty good.The Nest tech is flawless and the online-installation tutorial is pretty much idiot proof. If you register it before you install it, it tells you where to connect the exact wires your wall has sticking out of it. It really couldnât have been easier. I get a bit nervous when I get into these kinds of home repairs, but it is something a novice can do (if you can change a wall switch/plug, this will be no problem). Highly recommend. If you are on the fence about whether to purchase a Nest, I hope my review was able to address some of your concerns.

Easy to set up and fun to explore
I have always used Nest Thermostat in the past so this is an easy choice for me. Plug and play. Easy to set up. I bought this one because my old one for some reason has lost its wifi connection and i tried multiple reset and reconnect to no success after the software update. So i went ahead and purchase a new one. Old one was already more than 5 years I think. Regardless i am very happy with thw product.

I don’t really need something like this as it is more of a luxury item. However, all new homes have it and I wanted to spoil my house.We have a heat only system with gas boiler and in floor radiant heat that takes a long time to warm up the house. This is probably the worst system to be a candidate for the NEST but I did it anyways to up the cool factor of the homeThe bad thing is that you need a nest to control each valve. We have 3 zone valves here so things can get pricey really quick if u replace all 3 thermostats.Good news is that install was a piece of cake. I only had 2 wires to connect and no C wire. Works like a charm and thermostat automatically charges up and stays charged. Hadn’t had issues with wifi or anything
