    Works well with Apple
This and other Aqara products we own work very well with Apple HomeKit. Very easy to setup and this seems as reliable as the others.Found that a wired connection is the best way to go. The chime/hub already requires a wired usb power supply. The doorbell camera does not last long on batteries.Purchased an inexpensive UPS backup battery that supports 12v out to Doorbell and a 5v usb out to Chime. Provides battery backup to both. Installed in the basement. Installed the chime on the wall inside hallway where the original was and ran usb power down to basement. The camera image quality is good, but not the greatest.Sound quality is also ok.Overall if your smart home is Apple HomeKit and you are somewhat handy, I would recommend.

Works with Homekit, Mediocre Build Quality
I was looking for a doorbell with Apple HomeKit support, including secure video, and this was one of just a few available options. The device connected to my HomePod easily. (I did have to key in a 6 digit code because the QR code was not detected.) The device refused to “bind”; this may hame something to do with my WiFi security settings and may affect use with the Aqara app, but does not seem to affect operation with HomeKit.The unit picks up power from my existing doorbell wiring but does not activate my old chime. Instead, the sound comes through the Aqara base and my HomePod.The video quality is fine. The jury is still out on the AI features, such as facial recognition and package detection. The intercom feature works as expected. My main complaint is with the build quality. It looks okay but is made of cheap plastic, and the screws don’t go into the plastic easily. I was able to mount it securely, but the screws aren’t as straight as I would like.Overall, I’m reasonably pleased with the purchase, and I’ve bought another unit for my back door.

Terrible Battery Life, Doesn’t Work Wired
I’ve never written an Amazon review before but felt compelled to warn others from making the same mistake I did. I’m coming up on 6 months of owning this thing and it’s been a frustrating mess of an experience. The doorbell “works” when on battery power, but you lose access to most of the features you’d actually want a smart doorbell for, and critically, you’ll have to budget for all the batteries you’re gonna be buying to keep this thing going. As other reviews note, this thing goes through batteries at a ridiculous pace. It’s 6 AA batteries every time you need to replace them, and even on the most restrictive power saving mode, where the thing is almost just a regular doorbell, it’ll still get nowhere near the advertised battery life.So wiring the thing would solve all problems right? You would think, considering Aqara says it’ll work with just about any transformer, almost any kind of voltage, AC, DC, no problem.Or so they say, it’ll work marvelously for about a week after you wire it, all the functions running and no more low battery spam. Then, it’ll simply just stop working. The doorbell consists of two parts: the actual doorbell, and a chime repeater you place inside the home that the doorbell wirelessly connects to. Some time after you go wired, it’ll stop connecting to the repeater, and the doorbell becomes a useless brick on your front door. The doorbell won’t ring, you won’t receive any alerts, and you can’t access the video feed.Go online and you’ll find hundreds of posts from other owners with the same issue after wiring the doorbell. Contact Aqara support and they’ll give you increasingly ridiculous suggestions to get it working again. Reset the doorbell, not working? Ok turn off night vision, no? Turn off accidental deletion protection, turn off tamper protection, and so on. One of these will magically fix it, which I suspect is merely coincidence, since you’ll get about another week before it’s broken again.Clearly something is wrong when using this thing on wired power, and Aqara either can’t figure it out or refuses to.In short, if you aren’t going to use wired power, and you’re ok with having a monthly battery budget just for your doorbell, then get this. Otherwise, look for a doorbell that actually works like it’s supposed to.

    Overheating & Apple Home difficulties
Pros:-Setup was reasonable,- Okay app- SD Card storage- No required subscription for most features- 24/7 video recording optionMajor Cons:- Overheating: each day (9 out of 10 days) it would overheat for ~15min and lose footage and connection. It was in direct sunlight with ambient temperatures were between 70-85 degrees F. The direct sunlight is a hard condition, but seems like a reasonable expectation for an outdoor device.- Connected with Apple Home, but the previews during a notification would not show up on my Apple Watch, with multiple setup trials. It would show a black image, but going to the app would show the snapshot.- I used it connected to power for all but 4 days. When on battery power, it only lasted about 1 day, which I didn’t expect to be so short.- Chime connection showed “fair” connection for the majority of the time, and sometimes slipped to “poor”. I had the chime (which connects the doorbell to the home WiFi network) within 7 feet from the camera with only 1 wall separating them. This doesn’t seem like too unreasonable of a barrier, but the fair/poor connection made for some spotty live playback.

Edit: the early reviews for this have some negative points that are totally fair (slow to start recording, miss events). There was a firmware update (v4) that fixed these issues and makes the camera more stable/faster. If you’re having issues, be sure to upgrade your firmware in the Aqara app.Original review:This doorbell is great for a few reasons that make it unique: – It’s wired. Never need to change batteries if your house has the right wires – It supports HKSV (HomeKit Secure Video) — the recordings and AI all happening with Apple devices/servers, so you don’t need to trust Aqara. And Apple uses end to end encryption, so there’s minimal need to trust Apple as well. I set it up using the HomeKit QR code, and blocked internet access at my router level, and everything works fine. I never even downloaded the Aqara app. If you care about privacy (and trust Apple), this is one of the best options. – It has battery option: the only HKSV camera with a battery option (I don’t use this, but nice it exists) – It’s cheap: by far the cheapest HKSV camera – Streaming in home app is pretty much instant in wired mode. It’s the best camera right now if you care about the above. Highly recommend for using with Apple Home/HKSV.Downsides: – Video quality is fine, but nothing special – Low waterproof rating so a bit worries about installing outside. Should be okay but time will tell. – Video is wide, which isn’t great for seeing packages on the porchStill 5 stars, given the price I think it’s a great camera. If it cost as much as the competition (twice as much), would probably be 4 stars.
