How to Maximize the Life of Your Wool Blanket:
Triple Washed During Production
Every Arcturus wool blanket is triple-washed during production so you can use it right out of the box. However, at some point you’ll probably want to wash it.
Use a Woolen Detergent
We recommend using a detergent formulated specifically for wool for best results. Like all loom-woven blankets, this blanket will shed during the first few washes.
Wash Separately in Cold Water
To maximize the life of your blanket (and to avoid unnecessary shedding), we recommend washing your blanket by hand in cold water.
You may also machine wash your blanket separately in cold water on a delicate cycle using a front load washer. Avoid top loaders with a center agitator as they can cause damage and will increase shedding.
Line Dry Only
To extend the life of your blanket, we recommend line drying only. Dryers are hard on clothes and blankets alike, and line drying is much gentler.

Wool is fantastic. I have Merino Wool socks with 80% wool content and 20% synthetic material. 100% wool is a burden to wash and maintain. Most of the time it is dry clean only and shrinks if heated.This wool blanket is perfect for the price. It has a very light residual solvent smell from the triple wash process. I am airing it out on a couch in my hotel room. The ember color is rich and such a lovely shade of orange. The edges are all protected with stitching. It is a large blanket and will cover your entire body if outside or can be folded like a pita pocket to keep you surrounded in warmth. It is thin but it holds heat well. This is the perfect layer to add insulation power to sleeping bags and to isolate yourself from cold ground pads.Cons: Don’t wash this at home if you can help it unless you have a true steam washer and dryer. Only use Woolite and only a very small amount. The detergent is super concentrated. Ideally with a wool blanket like this you only wash it once it has absorbed enough contaminants. It doesn’t really need to be washed like cotton or synthetic materials.In conclusion this brand has produced a fantastic wool blend blanket that meets all the needs of the true outdoors man without the REI pricing. And if you treat it right, it will last you a very long time.

This blanket is sooo versatile, looks great, and I consider it an essential piece of kit. I am a hot sleeper, and this blanket seems to hit the sweet spot of temperature regulation for me. I use it at home, when I travel, and when I camp. Not lightweight, but far from heavy if you like having a blanket you can travel with. I find this blanket to be just the right weight for comfort; light enough to not be burdensome on you, but heavy enough to provide that sense of comfort from being covered, if that makes sense. The fabric blend is 97% wool, so it is NOT going to be a fuzzy cuddle blanket, but it softens up over time, and WILL provide warmth and a bit of water resistance. NOT WATERPROOF. Still, during a camping trip, it stayed warm when damp. I consider this blanket a GREAT value for the money. I was furious when our new puppy chewed a hole in my first one, and I ordered a replacement that same day without hesitation. The damaged one now has a place in my vehicle as a travel/outdoor blanket. If you want a blanket that is durable, warm, and versatile, I don’t think you will regret getting one of these. *Because of the wool, you need to follow the care/wash instructions carefully.

BEST Wool Blanket, Hands Down!
I purchased this blanket to carry with a bushcraft pack. After spending days comparing product descriptions and reviews both on Amazon and other online sources, I finally decided on the Arcturus 80% wool blend blanket in Military Gray. Upon its delivery I noticed three things right off the bat. First: the heft of the blanket is substantial, and I mean that in a very positive way. The weave of the wool is tight, the fibers are smooth and fixed and I could tell the blanket had been prewashed for softness, just as advertised – yet without leaving the wool loose, napped or “fuzzed up”. Second: there was NO discernible odor to the wool. NONE. No chemical or “wooly” smell whatsoever. Thirdly: there was a postcard inserted in the packaging from Arcturus THANKING me for my purchase, stating their commitment to a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee and clearly listing their direct contact information should there be problems or concerns regarding the order. Given the high quality of the blanket (and the weight), I decided to try it out indoors first as an extra layer of wintertime bedding. Long story short; I had the BEST night’s sleep in years and I’ve not been able to bring myself to stop using it on the bed. This prompted me to do a little research on the “healing properties of wool” and as it turns out there are plenty; including “regulation of body temperature” and “improved sleep”. (I invite you to Google it as well.) Last point…. Having left the Arcturus blanket on the bed, I was still without a wool blanket for my bushcraft pack, so I went the cheap rout and ordered a lighter, off brand blanket: the JMR Grey 62×80 Military Wool Blanket, also available on Amazon. WARNING: Don’t do the same! Huge mistake! And not at all worth the savings! Unlike the Arcturus blanket, the JMR brand blanket smelled like a potent cocktail of Formaldehyde and model airplane glue that was so pungent it actually permeated the shipping box. After three washings the cheap JMR blanket is fuzzed, napped and still stinks but no longer to the point that it induces an immediate headache. So, If your pondering the purchase of a reasonably priced, QUALITY wool or wool blend blanket, you’ll not go wrong with an Arcturus product. In fact, you’ll likely love your Arcturus blanket enough to buy more than one!

It’s a big, sturdy wool blanket.
This blanket passes the couch nap test. It easily covers me from head to foot and is pretty comfortable and warm. It’s studier than cotton so you do need to wrap it a bit to keep the heat in. Also, it’s pretty typical wool so it can be a bit scratchy, so I always have a shirt and sweats on when I use it. The blanket also has a nice heft to it as well which helps for sleeping. I liked it enough that ended up buying another for family.
