Better than the Deck
The Steam Deck is nice, but it only plays some of my games. This plays them all. Think about it: you are playing games on a windows PC. Think what you want about windows and Microsoft, we are talking about playing games here. The Ally plays windows games. I don’t need to worry about if my Steam games are in Linux or not. This is important for playing new and old games. Most older games are not going to be Deck verified.As for function, the Ally is great. I have it because I like to move my PC between rooms and even take it on trips. I do NOT use it for handheld gaming. I have a Nintendo Switch for that. But I do dock it to the living room big screen and enjoy. You can buy a couple of docks and easily move the system from room to room. I used to lug my 30lb tower on a luggage trolly between rooms, no joke.As for performance, this little PC delivers. With in reason. It runs everything I throw at it, it does not run all of those games on ultra or high settings. That was never, I don’t think, the point of the product. So don’t expect this to rivel a $3000 gaming rig. I knew that coming into it. And I am ok with it, in fact thrilled. This costs so little that I am really impressed. It doesn’t overheat, I play it for hours each day. It has a lot of tweakable features for performance and customization. It does look good and play good when in handheld mode, I just like the big screen in my living room.I am really glad that I picked this up. IMO, this type of product is likely the future of gaming. These will just continue to improve and so long as the price remains approachable, I think you will see products like this for years to come.

First of all I’d like to say that delivery of this product to my country was extremely fast and efficient, I live in a country in Africa so it’s good to know that Amazon is able to deliver products to my country, At first I was skeptical about getting the Z1 variant of the ally because I didn’t think it would be powerful enough to play my games but I guess I was wrong, with the appropriate power profile, the Z1 ally is able to produce playable framerates for the games I play, I prefer to play a mixture of older games and recent ones, so I’d say it’s been good from the time I got it, of course be prepared to install the latest software, especially the bios update which was daunting at first but it’s quite easy as long as you follow the instructions correctly, just make sure that you login into the device using your Microsoft account which you will be prompted to login to after the bios update which requires a bit locker key from your Microsoft account, I will update my review after using it extensively.

Donât waste your money
If I still had hair Iâd have pulled it all out by now. This device is problematic. Very very bad battery (only 2 hours of use max) Every game works differently. Overwatch does not work well on this device. Itâs laggy, slow when i turn left (except when I use a Xbox controller) which means itâs a hardware/software issue when running overwatch. Nothing you do works. Also God forbid you have to deal with ASUS customer service. I knew they had a horrible customer support team thanks to YouTube but I thought me being computer literate would give me a pass. I was wrong. Update, 06-01-24 when I originally purchased this, the listing had thousands of sales with minimum 4 stars rating average. Now suddenly just 2 reviews?
