Great for dog with slow metabolism and grain allergy
This is a great quality dog food, and my dog loves it. He has a very slow metabolism and is lazy and stubborn, so I have had some trouble keeping his weight down. He is very reluctant to walk very far, so his vet recommended controlling his weight mainly with diet. Since he has a grain allergy, this was one of few options available. He had no gastrointestinal side effects while transitioning, although I did stretch it for two weeks and we give him Wholistic Digest All Plus (probiotics and enzymes) with every meal. The bag has feeding guidelines for both weight management and weight loss. My dog didn’t lose any weight for the first 4 weeks, so after consulting with the vet, I reduced his food below what is recommended with the guidelines, and he has begun to slowly lose weight. I would recommend this because it is high quality, grain free, vet recommended, and my dog’s sensitive stomach has done very well. However, I will say that you should talk to your vet about this. Many dogs have hypoglycemia which can cause obesity, and diet just won’t help with that. Also, the feeding guidelines are just guidelines, and we feed less than what the directions suggest, but only after speaking with the vet. Feeding too little to lose weight quickly can also cause health issues for your pup. Anyway, I do recommend and will continue to feed this to my dog after he has reached his goal weight, readjusting the amount for weight management rather than weight loss.

I can definitely notice a different feel with Apollo’s (the recipient canine) coat as well as his overall energy level. Not to get into too much detail, but dog owners will appreciate this: his stools are much more pleasant (if such a thing can be said) when inevitably cleaning up the yard or when business is done on a walk. Another bonus is that if your dog has an issue with gas, this food seems to help enormously. This alone has been worth the asking price if you ask me.No other food, even from the vet, comes close to this quality and apparent health of my dog. As a bonus, you can feed 25%-50% less than cheap food.One caveat: you have to be very aware of the amount you feed your pet. This is not a food to leave out and allow your pet to graze on, even the bag advises that animals “find it very appetizing” and may be more susceptible to over-eating. One final point: even the reduced-fat variety is considerably more rich than other foods with the original version being even more so. Be sure to slowly introduce this into your pet’s diet to minimize gastric distress.
