Works great and no subscription needed
I got this to monitor my 90 year old dad. Setup is very simple and easy. Image is clear and connection is fast. The app is easy to use and supports continuous recording with micro SD card and no subscription needed. Another good feature of the app is that a several devices can be logged on at the same time using the same account so all of my siblings can monitor our dad at the same time.

I needed a security camera with quick access to live-view, local recording, and motion detection…and this camera has all that and more!QUALITY:My camera is in a 3rd floor window pointed downwards through glass, and I can still see small chipmunks and squirrels through it. You can disable the LED indicator and night vision using the app, which eliminates all reflection when pointing it through a window…and even without night vision, it can still see better/clearer in the dark than me!STORAGE:Local recording is supported on Micro SD card. You can choose 24/7 recording which loops (deletes the oldest video while it records real-time). Recordings are easy to view in the app, as you’re given a long timeline to scrub forward and backwards on…this can be resized to easily go back days at a time. If you view the Micro SD on a PC, the files are also timestamped making it easy to find video from a certain date/time.PHONE APPI have the Kasa companion app on iPhone. It’s VERY clean and responsive, and offers widgets and notifications. This allows QUICK access to live-view and motion sensing events. There is no hassle tapping through menus – live view and motion events are 1 click away after opening the app.Overall: This camera has been a quick and reliable method of home security and given me peace of mind while home and away. Easy to set up, quality is decent, brightness is a little high
It’s okay for an indoor camera; the setup process is straightforward, and the quality is decent. A few things that I noticed are that the brightness setting on the camera is a bit too high, and sadly, there’s no way to turn it down. Also, if you’re using Home Assistant, the lag and constant signal drop is horrible, and that’s with my camera being only 10ft away from the router but not so bad that it’s unwatchable. You can’t beat the price. I would not have bought it if it was $20 USD more.

LIVE FEED: **You can view your video feed from anywhere! You arenât confined to viewing only when you are home connected to homeâs Wi-Fi !** Yes, upon setup you connect the kasa device/app to your home Wi-Fi through your phoneâs settings.. after setup is complete, you are free to turn off your phoneâs WiFi and you will still see your live video! You would just need to keep your Wi-Fi router plugged in. This was important to me for traveling.AUDIO: 1-Way AND 2-way talk works! How: when you go to the live feed, you simply click the microphone icon and youâll be heard through the Kasa Cam. Speaker quality is pretty good and loud. Itâs clear but not super crisp like todays modern-day phones, buts thatâs to be expected. *You also have the option to just listen to the video feedâs audio (without clicking the microphone icon), which is great too!*SETTING PERKS: I like that in the settings you have the option to turn the small LED light in the front off so itâs more incognito.Even on 720P video quality (lowest option) the visual quality is really top notch. Iâm genuinely impressed, no pixels at all.**While viewing in my home, thereâs about a 1 second lag** doesnât bother me, but FYI.You can really customize the âactivityâ zones, so you are not limited to only using a rectangle when mapping out your motion detection areas.To tweak visual video settings, go to live feed section of the app and click setting icon in right corner.You can flip the camera image so if you mount it upside down, you can view it on your phone normally.DEVICE ITSELF: Camera doesnât tip over no matter how steep you angle it (meaning if it isnât physically mounted to the wall with screws) which is a plus! 24/7 local playback from SD card not reliable
We thought adding these to our existing set of Kasa plugs and switches was a good way to simplify apps; too bad the 24/7 local recording/playback repeatedly failed, and of course at the worst times.There appears to be recurring issues of playing back from the SD card, based on the postings on the community.tp-link.com site and what we directly experienced. Our three new KC400 cameras, all with brand new and name-brand high speed SD cards, experienced repeated failures playing back recordings from the local SD card. The app would just spin and spin, trying to load video from the SD card. When the cards were pulled and read from a computer, the SD cards showed multiple folders of video files, but the ones corresponding to the dates and times that would not playback on the app were in fact corrupt.We can not recommend this camera for local SD card recording and playback, which is what we bought them to do. If we were still within amazon’s return period, we would return all of them for a refund. We need local recording and playback from and SD card to “just work”, and it doesn’t seem the software/hardware is reliable.Otherwise the camera image is clear, even at night. The customizable notification areas is a good feature. Something else to note is the iOS notifications of motion do not include thumbnails unless you pay for the Kasa Care. For now we are using them as on-demand cameras with no SD cards, so no local recording and playback.

I thought I was buying from Amazon and did not realize when I found a better deal on the same page that it was a 3rd party seller.Long story short I purchased this to use as a baby monitor and realized I could not see all angles of the room, a security issue in my mind.I tried returning the camera and the seller says I am subject to a restocking fee, shipping fees to Quebec and that it is my problem I bought a product that does not work for me.To buy from this seller, you must be 100% certain you will not change your mind as these fees are meant to deter returns.

Just great, replaced my Ring Cam as I could simply add an SD card and access the recordings that way. Quality is just as good if not a little brighter. No subscriptions are required!
