A Game-Changing Addition to Your Smart Home
Once upon a time, I was just an ordinary person with a boring old light switch. But then, I discovered the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 and my life changed forever. This switch is truly a game-changer and I can confidently give it a 5 out of 5-star rating.First off, let’s talk about the installation process. I was a bit nervous about this at first, as I’m not exactly a handy person. But much to my surprise, the installation was a breeze. All you need is a neutral wire, which my house had, and you’re good to go. No hub required, no complicated wiring diagrams, just a simple and straightforward process.Once I got the switch installed, it was time to put it to the test. And let me tell you, this thing is incredible. The Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 allows you to control your lights with your voice, through Alexa or Google Home, or through the Kasa app on your phone. It’s so easy to use and the dimming feature is truly a game-changer.But the real standout feature for me is the scheduling option. You can set your lights to turn on and off at certain times, which is incredibly useful for when you’re away from home. It gives you peace of mind knowing that your home appears occupied, even when you’re not there. Plus, it’s just fun to mess with your friends by having your lights turn on and off at random times.I have to say, the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 has truly revolutionized the way I use my lights at home. I love that I can control the brightness and color temperature of my lights with just a few taps on my phone, or by asking Alexa to do it for me. It’s also really handy when I’m settling in to watch a movie or read a book, as I can dim the lights to the perfect level of brightness without even getting up from my seat. But what really sets this switch apart is the fact that it’s so easy to use. Even my technologically challenged grandparents were able to figure out how to use it with no problem. And if they can do it, anyone can! The app is really intuitive and user-friendly, and the instructions that come with the switch are clear and easy to follow.Another great thing about the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 is that it’s incredibly reliable. I’ve never had any issues with it disconnecting from my Wi-Fi or failing to respond to voice commands. And on the rare occasion when I did have a question or problem, the customer service team at Kasa was quick to respond and really helpful. One of my favorite features of the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 is the ability to create scenes. With scenes, you can set up multiple switches to control different lights at the same time. For example, I have a scene called “Movie Night” where I dim the lights in the living room, turn off the overhead lights, and turn on my table lamps to create the perfect atmosphere for watching a movie. It’s so convenient to be able to control multiple lights with just one command!I also appreciate the safety features of this switch. It’s UL certified, which means it meets rigorous safety standards, and it has a built-in safety shut-off feature that prevents the switch from overheating. This gives me peace of mind knowing that I don’t have to worry about any safety issues. Finally, I have to mention how great the Kasa app is. It’s so easy to use and has a ton of features that allow you to customize your smart home experience. You can set schedules, create scenes, and even monitor your energy usage to see how much money you’re saving on your electricity bill.Overall, I would highly recommend the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 to anyone looking to upgrade their home. It’s easy to install, fun to use, and adds a touch of convenience to your daily life. Plus, it’s just plain cool to be able to control your lights with your voice. So go ahead and buy it, you won’t regret it!

They work great and connect well to wifi. Very easy to use
I’ve installed 6 of these and plan to have my whole house done by the time I finish. They work very well and also work fine with no internet manually. After power outage they connect back seamlessly. No glitches. I have dimmable, regular and motion controlled. They are all great!

    Awesome product
This switch made it a lot easier on me especially when I am not home. I can set a schedule and there has been no issues with connectivity like a lot of other smart switches on the market. The kasa app is very user friendly as well. Will definitely be adding more switches to my home with tplink in the future.

Installation relatively easy, beware of the DEEP switch! Need a Leviton switch plate cover.
Interesting installation: Two of the wires (ground, neutral) are fastened to existing wires in the switch box with wire nuts. But line and load wires need to be attached to the switch with screw terminals..Since my old switch had the wires attached to the switch with push-wire installation, I had to remove the wires from the old switch, then bend the wires into a little “C” shape to install them onto the TP Link’s screw terminals, then fasten those down. This made the installation a bit more tedious, but it does save a bit of room in the switch box (as the wire nuts can be bulky and take up a bit of room). After some effort was able to fit the switch into the switch box, but it was quite a tight fit. This is a thick switch. Screwed it in (it’s in a 2-gang switch box with another decora/decorator-type switch that controls the bathroom fan) and tried to put on the Legrand 2-gang decorator switch plate, but the bottom of the plate would not cover the TP Links switch fully. There was a little annoying gap at the bottom, even with the switch plate fully fastened.I bought another 2-gang switch plate (by Leviton) and this was a midway switch which was a bit deeper.. thankfully this fit perfectly! So keep that in mind.. if you don’t use the included switch plate cover by TP Link, you’ll need a deeper, thicker switch plate cover to accommodate this thick switch. Leviton’s midway plate worked well for this. Now that the switch is installed it works great. Installed via the TP Link Kasa app, connected to Alexa and added to Home Assistant. The dimmer functionality works well and the switch looks nice. I am not sure how I like the switch feel when using the switch manually, though. It feels a little odd (not like a “real” click from a mechanical switch). Most of the time I use sensors and timers to turn the switch on/off, so not a big deal, but the physical switch itself doesn’t feel 100% like a real manual/mechanical switch.Overall I like it. It’s a great value for the price (less than $20) and it is UL listed, which was an important requirement for me.

Great quality and easy to install!
It’s worth the price, easy to install, easy to configure and it works great with Alexa and the application. My favorite feature is the adjustment of brightness from the app or asking Alexa to adjust.

TL;DR: Excellent smart light switch. The Kasa App walks you through the entire installation and made it REALLY easy. Installation took 30-40 minutes without any help. Linking the switch to the Kasa app and wifi was easy. The only odd thing I noticed was that the brightness calibration did not seem to have the degree of sensitivity that it indicates in the app (see full review below).FULL REVIEWThis is my 7th Kasa smart device and the first smart light switch I’ve purchased. As someone who is not very handy with household electrical, I found the guided installation instructions in the Kasa app absolutely incredible. The app walks you through every single step with total clarity – there were no instances where I had to guess or try to figure out what the app was asking me to do. Installation took somewhere between 30-40 minutes which included time that I spent running down to our circuit breaker. I was able to complete the installation by myself without any help.Once the switch was installed, the Kasa app made getting the device linked to my wifi and smart home a breeze. It took maybe one minute to get everything linked up. The setup process was straightforward and easier than I expected. The only oddity that I noticed was at the setup step for the calibration of the dimmer. During setup, you will be given a slider that will allow you to calibrate the dimmer levels based on the type of bulbs that you are using. The slider shows the lowest dimmer range for both incandescent and LED bulbs, however as I tried to use this, I noticed that my dimmable LED bulbs did not respond to anything but the largest changes on this scale. As I would change the minimum threshold for the dimmer (either up or down), there was no noticeable difference to the brightness of my bulbs. In practice, this doesn’t seem to make much of a difference to the actual dimming functionality of the switch. Also, it doesn’t appear that you can control dimness using voice control with Google Home. To change the dimmer settings, you will still need to either control it from the actual switch itself or open the Kasa app on your phone.Overall, I’m very pleased with this switch. It makes a nice, affordable upgrade and like my other Kasa smart home products is so easy to set up and use. 100% recommended.

It’s designed for American homes which have a 110V supply. UK homes have a 230/240 V supply so it can’t be used in UK homes

Extremely easy to install, because there are ONLY two wire terminals. In our case there were 2 red wires on the Line side (Power side) feeding power, as it turned out one of them continues on to a plug. 60 yrs ago the Sparky did that as a convenience to save himself work. I decided to leave the connections as they were (They worked for over 50 yrs), and connected the wire to the bedroom ceiling light to the Load side of the switch. The rest is just reassembly, and tucking everything neatly inside of the box. I will say that if your light switch IS in a small box, then you should consider upgrading to a larger gang box is my advice. We happened to have a 4×4 box fitted with a single gang plate adapter so space was NOT an issue. So if you have a good sized electrical box installed, this Kasa Smart switch IS the switch for You. It is very intuitive, I never had to read the instructions until I reached the “Program Stage” of this operation. To associate this I was forced to read the paper in the box, and Debb downloaded the Alexa App onto her Google Pixel 6, then open Alexa on your phone go to bottom to devices and Name the switch (Bedroom Light). Once that is done all you need to do is talk to Alexa and say “Alexa Bedroom light on 25%”, and Budda-Boom Budda-Bing the light turns to 25% (We had previously installed a Costco dimmable LED Horizon light). The Kasa switch has legacy Up and Down legacy buttons to adjust brightness if you are experiencing Alexa communication issues. It also has a master switch that dominates the switch face, if you touch it for at least 1 second it will turn the light Off or On depending on the current power phase of the Kasa dimmer switch. Final conclusion: This is a very cool device that will help you reach your home automation goals and is very intuitive in design for an easy install if you have a good sized switch box existing for your application. I hope this helps. We are for SURE going to order more of these KASA devices for our home. The price makes home automation very achievable for people on a budget.
