The best budget phone I’ve found to run LineageOS so far
This review is entirely focused around flashing custom roms.Unlocking bootloader – Took ~1 hour just because OnePlus’s web form is broken to generate unlock tokens. You will need to call/email customer support. They will need IMEI, serial, the unlock code you get with fastboot commands, and the PCBA/PCB number. Google how to find them; not super hard. Only took as long as it did because I was messing with the broken web portal for too long. Got an unlock token with 20 minutes of asking. 10/10, thanks Sasha.Flashing recovery/ROM(LineageOS) – Comes out of the box with the required android version. No need to upgrade/downgrade stock ROM. Very convenient. I just use the LineageOS recovery, but there’s no reason you couldn’t flash TWRP.Rooting – With unlocked bootloader, simply install custom recovery of your choice and flash Magisk. I had 0 issues getting Magisk/Zygisk/LSPosed flashed/enabled. If you’re sticking with stock ROM, I have no idea how easy/hard it is to root. Got rid of stock ROM pretty much immediately. I have not tested how well Zygisk hides root from apps, as I don’t bank on my phone.Notes – I did have an issue after enabling some magisk modules where I broke the speakers and sound and had to reflash LineageOS. I believe the offending module was either MIUI Core/Camera, Lineage Dialer, Viper4Android FX master, or cloudflareDNS for Magisk. Even so, resetting everything and reloading backups/ configuring settings took am hour or two.Notes – The LineageOS camera is bad. Really bad. If you’re using the phone for the camera, either stick with stock ROM or flash a dedicated camera ROM. I did not test stock ROM camera. I also have an issue where sometimes the first call of the day I make, my mic doesn’t work, but hanging up and calling back fixes this. Conclusion – Between the T-mobile LG V20, moto g7 plus, and this phone, this phone is the best and easiest to unlock at the pricepoint. It’s so great, I’ve gotten 2 of them.Update: had an issue with both phones where they could not receive texts(could send texts just fine). To fix, with the phone on, remove and re-insert the sim card. I only needed to do this once and the text issue has been resolved.

    Great phone, lots of bloatware.
Despite being “renewed” (which can mean a lot of things depending on context), the phone arrived in pristine condition and fully functional, though not in the original packaging (which is typical for a refurbished device). It seriously looks and feels brand new. I’m not sure if the charger and USB cable are original or aftermarket, but they were included and function, so no complaints. If you’re looking at this device, you’re probably already familiar with all the good things about it, so I’ll just mention the nitpicks I have:1) Fingerprint sensor on the side power button leaves a lot to be desired. It frequently fails to detect my finger even though you have to scan it at all kinds of angles during setup. I often find I need to switch hands and unlock it with my right hand as the fingers on my left hand never seem to register correctly or at the correct angle. The fingerprint sensor is even more annoying once you put the phone into a case. The power button is recessed in the case which makes getting a good read even more cumbersome. I don’t think a different style case would make much of a difference (and a thicker case would certainly make it worse). Why can’t phones go back to the fingerprint sensor on the ‘home’ button (and go back to *having* a home button. But I digress…)2) Bloatware. OMG, the bloatware. Initial setup takes absolutely forever because of all the bloatware that insists on downloading on first run. Beyond the usual Google stuff I’ll never use, T-Mobile throws on a bunch of junk games and other “sponsored” fluff.Beyond *that*, the T-Mobile app itself sets a persistent notification until you “finish setup”. Clicking that to make it go away takes you to a series of screens in the T-Mob app where you have to uncheck even more bloatware that it wants you to install (none of which is required to use the device). And once you get through all that, debloat the useless junk, and think you’re done, each system update installs new or re-enables old bloatware you have already removed/disabled.So, if you’re setting this up for the first time, just leave the bloatware installed until you’ve applied all the system updates or you’re going to be doing it multiple times.**Carrier Locked**: Note that I’m not factoring this into the rating. In case you miss it in the listing, this is the T-Mobile version of the N200 and is carrier-locked to their network. I’m not reviewing T-Mobile’s unlock policy here, but before buying, please make sure you understand the following:- T-Mobile *WILL NOT* unlock this device for you. At least, not at first. Despite it not being a subsidized device and you fully owning it, their system will not allow it to be carrier-unlocked until it meets the same requirements as one they subsidized.Per their unlock policy, you will have to use it on T-Mobile for 40 days (if using a postpaid plan) or 365 days/1 year if using a pre-paid plan. So, if you’re currently a T-Mobile customer, this should work fine; you just won’t be able to unlock it to use elsewhere until after 40 days or 1 year of use depending on your plan type.- SIM cards from T-Mobile MVNOs (Mint, MetroPCS, etc) or subsidiaries (Sprint, nTelos, etc) will NOT be accepted in this. I use Mint and foolishly expected it to work since they’re now fully owned by T-Mobile. Nope.

    Worth the money
Good but if you are tired of replacing expensive phones! This phone is durable and works just as good as my Samsung. Internet speed is fast and looks like an expensive phone without breaking the bank

The phone itself is great value with a powerful CPU and Integrated Graphics, this phone can easily surf the web as well as run videos at 720p. It isn’t an insanely powerful phone but considering the price it’s amazing value compared to 90% of other phones near it’s price range but the only thing that’s dropping my rating of the phone from 5 stars to 2 stars is the extremely fragile phone screen, even with a good screen protector a mere 3 inch drop onto asphalt shattered the phone screen rendering it unusable, I’m not overexaggerating when I say this, even if you accidently drop the phone from your hands while indoors onto a wooden floor you’ll be lucky to not have the screen shattered, be VERY careful whilst using this phone and avoid dropping it at ANY costs.

I had a OnePlus in the past and really liked it so looked forward to trying it again. This model was a huge disappointment. The worst is the camera – it looked way grainier and smudgier than my old phone that had less megapixels, especially in anything but the brightest lighting. Also, it was really slow to respond to button presses or sometimes doesn’t register anything at all (though this could be something from the refurbishment process?). Returning ASAP.

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G isn’t a terrible phone by any means. For a budget phone, it more than gives you enough space, and power to play some games, listen to music or take and make phone calls or texts. I recommend this if you need something cheap, or you just need something while your current phone is being repaired or replaced. Great backup, or a phone for the kids!
