Puppy cam!!
Alright, so this isn’t specifically a puppy cam, but that’s what we are using it for! Great little camera! Pan, tilt, zoom, great redolution and color, and super easy to use and setup! Reolink app is simple and straightforward. No issues at all, and will definitely buy more Reolink cameras! They have video doorbells, security cameras, and lots of other stuff that work with the one app! This camera also has really good night vision! I haven’t used the storage capability, ad I just use it fir a puppy cam, so I don’t worry about that ir battery life as this is plugged in to the wall 🙂

Good bang for the buck
I am redoing my review as I have spent more time with the camera and figured out the errors of my ways. Actually now have the 5MP version with zoom and like that one a lot better, but this still has its uses. First of all, the main thing I did wrong with this camera is get the video stream over UDP. It looks like with Xeoma when you let it auto select a transport protocol, it defaults to UDP, not TCP. The other security cameras I am using with Xeoma are wired in and the packets through the main switch are prioritized, so UDP works just fine with them, but with this camera it goes over lossy WiFi, so TCP is a must. The pros of this camera are:1. Good quality picture.2. Motorized movement of camera.3. Mounting is quick and easy.4. Easy to pop off mount and set down somewhere.5. Quickly switches between day and night mode. That is one issue with the higher end model is it is a lot slower to switch modes than this one.The cons of this camera are:1. No zoom. This feature is really handy for monitoring the baby while in the crib as it can be hard to tell if his eyes are open when mounted above the crib. Really only a few more $ and you get this. However this camera is still good when I need to monitor away from the crib and a wide angle view is fine. Actually now it is the better camera just lives mounted above the crib and this is the one I drag around.2. The two way audio is really pretty lackluster in both directions. I mean it ‘works’, just they probably spent about $1 on it when $2 would have been so much better. Then again also have a traditional baby monitor which works really well, so not that big of an issue for me.3. No Ethernet port. Actually have an Ethernet switch right where I mount over the crib and so would be nice to take advantage of that, but sadly I can’t. However I have a heavily wired in home setup, which minimizes the load on the airwaves, and I have multiple APs around the house due to the walls in this old home really absorbing the signal, so have really good WiFi to use this camera with, just gotta do it in TCP mode.So the final verdict for using for its intended purpose, watching the baby from another room either from a phone or from my desktop computer (say while I work), well it does the subset of the baby is in a random place with my wife or I am with the baby and my wife is keeping an eye on things. It fell short on the watch the baby from a fixed position above the crib due to the lack of a zoom feature that I didn’t realize I would need until after he was born.

Love these cameras
So for those of you who have trouble getting your cameras to connect to your WiFi, hereâs what I did:Initially during setup, youâll want to use an ethernet cable connected directly to your router.Scan the QR code as instructed on the bottom of your camera using the Reolink app. Itâll then prompt you to select a method for connecting to your network. Choose the wired ethernet connection. Connect your Ethernet cable to your camera, then connect the other end into your router in an ethernet port.Follow the setup instructions.Once it goes to the screen asking you to connect to your wifi, skip this step.It should finish setup and take you to the home page of your Reolink app where you can now view your camera.Select the camera you just setup and click on the gear icon.Select wifi and choose your network. Yes this camera does support both 2.5 ghz and 5G. When prompted, manually enter your wifi network password and click save.Your camera should now be connected to both the Ethernet cable and WiFi. You can go ahead and disconnect the Ethernet cable and your camera should work fine on your wifi network. It may give a false issue with wifi connectivity initially when you disconnect your Ethernet and unplug your power cord. Just move your camera to wherever you want in your house and plug it back in. Give it some time. It might say itâs disconnected. I just clicked on the gear icon and went to wifi then went back to the main screen. Just click on some menu items or something until it reregisters and connects again. Itâs a little iffy at first but so far my cameras have been working and connecting fine.Donât forget to add in your high endurance micro SD card and format it. From here you can play around with the menu options.Mounting them was easy as it comes with a template. Just make sure your mounting plate faces whatever way you want your power cord to hang down from once the camera is locked into the mounting plate. It comes with a long power cord which provides more than enough length to connect how I need it to. The camera quality is pretty good, not great but you do have the option to choose between low, mid and high camera quality while viewing. There is some lag (few milliseconds) when watching the video from my phone and viewing actions live. Some of this can be fixed by adjusting settings within the app (lowering quality, etc). But mostly itâll be come down to software, your internet connection, location, etc. not a whole lot you can do about that.I donât like the pan tilt options as much because you canât fine tune the movement and thereâs lag time between when you press the button to rotate and when the camera actually moves. Itâs moves a bit too much for my taste. I do not hear any sound when moving the cameras in our home however and thatâs with the general noises (refrigerator, fans, etc going in).Sound quality is decent when using the two way audio but thereâs definitely better quality out there for cameras in this price range.I like that you can schedule when youâd like to receive alerts for movement, especially since itâs an indoor camera, however I wish this function was more user friendly and we could select the time and dates like you would in a calendar app rather than sliding your finger along a vertical time map.Definitely make sure that they do not directly face up against a wall when viewing because that can alter the appearance when viewing on the phone.Iâm still testing them out but Iâll try to remember to update if I notice anything else of importance.

The camera brings a very good value for the money you pay, but not without drawbacks. My complaints:1) Very limited vertical tilt. I am not sure why they limited it to such small angles. It could have been more tilted towards the base (until the base itself come into the frame) and could have allowed up to 90° vertical angle. I don’t understand why they did not recognize that. If you install it with base up, it becomes a limiting factor, because you cannot adjust it to look directly below.2) Not very accurate positioning to the presets (the monitor point and the saved preset points). Sometimes they deviate as you move the camera back and forth, and you need to re-calibrate. It becomes important with privacy zones or non-detection zones: if the picture shifts, the zones become irrelevant as they are tied to fixed positions of the frame.3) Motion detection becomes insensitive to minor movements. E.g. if an animal enters the area, it is detected as a motion, but if the animal stays on the same place and moving, or walking slowly, the motion may be undetected, no matter what sensitivity you set. But this seems to be the problem of all Reolink cameras and probably sits in the software.P.S. And of course the initial setup was a nightmare as the camera does not want to scan your QR code and you have no idea what is wrong because you have not seen the picture yet. As a tip: try feeding the camera the QR code along with some background of the same depth (e.g. a wall, floor, or a large flat object) and immobilize the camera. It might not read the QR code because it cannot focus on the phone alone.
