For use on clothing, tents, sleeping bags, and other outdoor gear, Sawyer Permethrin repels or kills disease-spreading ticks (Lyme disease), mosquitoes (West Nile and Zika viruses) and more than 55 other kinds of insects. Perfect for camping, backpacking, hunting, travel, backyard BBQs, picnics, and more. Permethrin insect and tick repellent adds an odorless layer of protection to shirts, jackets, pants, socks, shoes, sleeping bags, tents, netting, and other outdoor, camping, hunting, and travel gear. A University of Rhode Island study (2017) found that people wearing Permethrin-treated shoes and socks were 73.6 times less likely to have a tick bite than those wearing untreated footwear. Using it on outdoor gear also helps reduce the mosquito population in your camp and prevents ticks from attaching to you. Permethrin spray bonds to fabric fibers for up to 6 weeks (42 days) of exposure to sun or 6 washings. Sawyer Permethrin does not come out from sweat or water contact. It only degrades via UV exposure or the agitation of a washing machine. Specially formulated not to stain or damage your clothing, other fabrics, gear, and equipment, it’s odorless after drying and is as effective as 100% DEET. To apply, spray Permethrin directly onto clothing and gear with a slow sweeping motion, keeping the bottle about 6 to 8 inches away, and treating each side of the garment for about 30 seconds. The EPA recommends using 4.5 ounces of Permethrin to spray each outfit (consisting of shirt, pants, and socks). Maximize protection by pairing with Sawyer Picaridin topical repellent for the skin.Sawyer Products has offered the best, most technologically advanced solutions for protection against sun, bugs, water, and injuries – everything from first aid kits developed for wilderness to point-of-use water filters that filter contaminated water to levels cleaner than U. S. bottled water.
Permethrin spray bonds to fabric fibers for up to 6 weeks or through 6 washings (whichever comes first) won’t stain or damage clothing, fabrics, plastics, finished surfaces, or outdoor gear; fragrance free
Reduce likelihood of a tick bite by 73.6 times by treating shoes and socks with Permethrin (University of Rhode Island study – 2017); maximize protection by pairing with Sawyer Picaridin topical repellent for the skin

Worked fantastically with other prevention steps — ALMOST NO MOSQUITO BITES AFTER NINE DAYS IN THE JUNGLE!!!
I just came back from a nine-day trip deep into the Peruvian jungle — into the reserve part of Manu National Park. It was an incredible journey! Fantastic nature, and incredibly isolated and pristine (an area never disturbed, and still inhabited by non-contacted peoples). But ahead of time I was extremely nervous about mosquito bites, because twice in the last ten years or so I have been to the emergency clinic with dozens of bug bites and a very strong allergic reaction to them. I practically obsessed over what to do to prevent mosquito bites as much as possible, because I have had such a strong reaction to bug bites, and the jungle is certainly full of mosquitos and other biting insects!.I am very happy to say that everything that I did worked — I got very few bites, and I didn’t even notice them until I searched for them. Everyone else in our group got plenty of bites, and they were itching like crazy, but not me!!!Here is what I did and what I brought:1. I have a Peruvian friend who is a doctor. He told me to take Vitamin B complex every day for a week before the trip and every day in the jungle. I used these: Nature Made Super B Complex Tablets, Value Size, 360 Count2. I bought two bottles of this Permethrin spray and very carefully sprayed ALL of my clothing, carefully following the directions on the bottle. I sprayed all of my clothing at home in my garage, and then packed it all in these giant ziploc bags: Ziploc Big Bag Double Zipper, Large, 5-Count (by the way, those bags were great for packing everything and really helped to keep things from getting too damp in the 100% humidity jungle!). I sprayed the three pairs of hiking pants I brought, three long-sleeved shirts, all of my thick hiking socks, and my sunhat (both sides). I put extra spray at all openings – pant cuffs, shirt cuffs, and shirt button seams. While there I always tucked my pants legs into my socks. The tour company had suggested wearing a cotton t-short under long-sleeved shirts because the mosquitoes bite through clothing, but I never did that; I didn’t need to as I just didn’t get bites through the Permethrin-sprayed clothing. This stuff really worked, as I did not get bites through my Permethrin-treated clothing!3. I took the antihistamine Loratidine (generic for Claritin, this one: GoodSense Allergy Relief Loratadine Tablets, 10 mg, 30 Count Bottle) as a prophylactic every morning, to prevent my strong reaction to bites. This worked GREAT — I did get a few bites, as I could see the tiny red dots, but I didn’t feel anything at all from them! I took only enough for the days that I was in the jungle. In the two days in Cusco before returning to the US I started itching a little on a couple of bites. In hindsight I should have taken a few extra tablets to take in the next few days after the trip. (Another hint – some people get drowsy on this stuff; I tested it first at home before going on my trip. There are other OTC non-drowsy antihistamines you can try if this doesn’t work, like the generic for Zyrtec.)4. I bought DEET. In my paranoia about insect bites and my prior reaction to them, I bought several different versions of DEET — spray, wipes, and lotion, but I used only this spray, and only three times: Repel 94101 6-Ounce Sportsmen Max Insect Repellent 40-Percent DEET Pump Spray, Case Pack of 1. That bottle is plenty for lots of people; to minimize weight and volume in your pack you might even want to put it into a smaller travel-sized spray bottle. I sprayed the backs of my hands, and then wiped from the backs of my hands onto my neck, cheeks, and forehead.5. I had a mosquito head net that I purchased many years ago. Amazon has others but not the one that I have, so I can’t give a link. I used this only two or three times when the mosquitos were especially thick. I had sprayed this also with Permethrin before leaving home.6. I also brought with me an over the counter anti-itch creme (hydrocortisone), and a prescription-strength anti-itch creme (Clobetisol). I never used either one!!!!! But my travelling partners sure were happy that I had it so they could use it! I also had Sting Eze (StingEze Max2 Insect Bite Itch Relief Dauber, 0.5-Ounce), but this too I never needed, and my travelling friends were very happy to use.I worried a LOT before the trip about getting mosquito bites and my reaction to them. Really worried. I questioned my sanity for going! But with this Permethrin spray and everything else I did to prep, I had NO problems with mosquitos and I was able to totally enjoy the trip!!!!

Nothing Better to Fight the Bite!
Started to use Sawyer’s Permethrin some years ago when I knew I was traveling to an area where mosquitos were likely! So easy to spray ones sets of clothes: pants, tops, socks, hats, scarves, jackets — everything, really — and then know one is protected. Buying clothes which are pre-treated can be very expensive, and Sawyer’s spray is much more cost-effective, plus you’re using clothes you already own. To apply, best to do it in a well-ventilated area, like a garage with the door at least partially open. There is an odor when applying, and one also doesn’t want to breathe in the fumes. The ventilation also speeds the clothes to dry — and once dried, there is NO ODOR on your clothes, no “stickiness” nor stiffness, you don’t even realize your clothes has been treated! It’s wonderful to know you have the protection without the smell and greasiness of other protection like DEET or various bracelets I’ve seen (and bought). Very easy, effective, and economical!

    Absolute Necessity
Ticks are really bad in my area during the majority of the year. I spend a lot of time outside in the woods camping, hiking, hunting, working, etc. My kids spend time playing outside and accompanying me as well. We cannot afford to have tick bites. I have an uncle who almost didn’t make it from a disease from a tick bite so I am extremely cautious. Since I started spraying my clothes and gear with permethrin from Sawyer, I have not had a single tick on me or my gear. It is worth every penny. It also does not stink and make me feel nauseous like DEET based product like OFF. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

    Doesn’t smell strong
I love that it doesn’t smell strong. I usually spray this on my couches or curtains when my babies leave the door open for long and my husband and I get bit while watching TV. For the most part it does work but I mean it’s not bulletproof

    This stuff is awesome
Being that I live and hunt in southeast Georgia around the swamps. I treat my camo with this stuff religiously. I can tell when I need to re treat it because I’ll get absolutely destroyed by mosquitos. When the camo is treated my face and hands (the only exposed skin) get tore up but they don’t get me through my clothing like they normally would. I highly recommend this stuff and there’s absolutely no scent. Spray it on, let it dry and you’ll be good. It says on the bottle that it’s good up to 6 washes and I can tell you, that’s not true. I’d say 2 washes and you’ll have to re treat.

    I highly recommend this product!
I bought this for the first time this year, and I went nearly bug bite free the entire time. I simply sprayed the clothes I planned on using for either working outside or enjoying a relaxing day doing summer things out. After letting it dry, I was set to go enjoy a bug free day. Best part of using this awesome product was I had clothes I could wear again after at least 5-6 washes because my clothes or garments stayed bug resistant! Simply said this is the best product I’ve used to protect my clothes from bug attacks . I highly recommend this product for it’s ease of use and effectiveness.

Keeps ticks off and does work
This is great for treating clothing to keep ticks off while you are gardening. It lasts about 6 weeks and there is enough spray to treat a shirt and pants at least twice in a season with some left over. They indicate that you can wash the clothes a number of times after treating and drying without reducing the effectiveness. That seems to be the case. Ticks can be a problem here and with this spray I have managed to avoid the ticks.

    No bites or no-see-ums!
Used this while car camping during a muggy week in Missouri when the mosquitoes would attack you while setting up each evening, but I sprayed it on the netting and around the edges of the car tent we attached to the back and never got a bite while inside. Also used while camping along Lake Erie in Ohio and didn’t have any issues with no-see-ums while inside our tent. Totally impressed!

    強烈な有機溶剤の臭いで倒れそうになります。もろにガソリンを吹きかけるイメージです。またスプレーする時、必ず液だれして指がピリピリと痛みます。ものすごく肌に悪い薬品を使用している感じがします。
