Explore hydraulics, pneumatics, and robotics with your very own GIANT hydraulic hand! Using over 200 plastic pieces and piston tubes that you fill with water, build an awesome mechanical hand that uses hydraulic power to simulate the movements of the human hand no motors or electricity required! Once assembled, your cyborg hand slips onto your own hand like a glove, with mechanical fingers that you operate with your own fingers and that can grip objects with enough force to lift them. Challenge yourself to pick up and hold a variety of items like bottles, pencils, small items anything with reach! The hand can be configured in three ways left hand, right hand, and claw-like, with the thumb in the center and can be adjusted to fit virtually all hand sizes. A 40-page, full-color manual guides model building and experimentation and provides engaging scientific information about how pneumatic and hydraulic systems are used in industrial robots to assist with a variety of tasks in our modern world.
Build your own awesome, wearable mechanical hand that you operate with your own fingers.
No motors, no batteries — just the power of air pressure, water, and your own hands!
Hydraulic pistons enable the mechanical fingers to open and close and grip objects with enough force to lift them. Every finger joint can be adjusted to different angles for precision movement.
Three configurations: right hand, left hand, and claw-like; adjustable to fit virtually any human hand.

Best for 15-16 year olds-5 stars for end product. 4 stars for being a challenge to assemble.
After reading the reviews on difficulty level I decided to get this for my 16 year old. He is very good with putting things together and this took him about 6 hours to assemble over a few days. He (gently) used a power drill because the screws were too difficult to do manually. It is a great gift for an older kid that likes to build but would not recommend it for the ages listed in the description. He enjoyed it, it was challenging enough without being overly frustrating and not so easy that he was done with it in no time. It is a very cool hand and works really well!

Complicated to Build
My 8 year old grandson picked it as gift because he loves complicated ones and has mastered even the most complicated ones. This one is very hard to build and he did it, however, may be too hard for child under 8.

Age range
This build was fun! My nine year old and I had a good time exploring physics / engineering concepts with this kit.Unfortunately, after a month or so of incremental building, the end result was to large for my nine year old’s hands.Contacting customer service resulted in a copy / paste from the instruction manual. This is the best resolution Thames and Kosmos can offer when inquiring about potential modifications that would allow the cyborg hand to fit my nine year old’s hand.Just a friendly heads up to anyone considering purchasing this product.

Challenging to put together but very cool final product
My 8 year old got this for his birthday and was able to put it together with some help from my husband and I. The most painstaking part of the process is filing the plastic burs off of the pieces so they fit tightly. One the hand it assembled, it has provided hours of entertainment and my son is so proud of it.

Such an exciting gift!
I ordered this for my sonâs 9th birthday, after he saw it online and became immediately obsessed. He couldnât wait to start building, and I had to stop him from ripping it open multiple times. This definitely required close parental involvement (for his age, at least)â¦he didnât appreciate the value of the directions until he used the wrong size screw in an early step, and we had to undo several pieces. After that, he was VERY careful to read the guide (which was the best instruction set Iâve ever used – clean / easy to understand drawings), and he carefully filed off the little plastic nubs from each part after we snapped them out. The pieces are plastic, but we didnât have any just break on usâ¦but be warned, some pieces canât be unsnapped after they are clicked together (this isnât a project you can make multiple times). At one point when we were almost done, my son accidentally clicked two pieces together without placing them around a third pieceâ¦and they wouldnât come undone. I tried to pry them apart with a little screwdriver, but I snapped off one of the tabs. He felt awful and cried, but thankfully we could fix that with superglue. We also had one piece with a manufacturing defect, but I reached out to the company, and they kindly sent us a replacement. I think it took 5 hours over 2 days to assemble, but it was worth it. Iâll re-emphasize: parental/adult involvement is necessaryâ¦donât turn a younger kid loose with this project. We bought another one for my sonâs best friend, but I think he worked on it alone, got frustrated, and put it awayâ¦hoping he didnât snap together pieces that canât be undone, because that will make the set worthless. Our experience was positive, though, and now my son is scouring the companyâs catalogue to choose his next project, which he desperately hoping comes under the Christmas tree.

Great activity!
Instructions were easy to follow and he did almost everything by himself @ 10yrs old. He had a great time putting it together and he said it can even pick things up! ð Great gift idea.

A lot of fun but qualify could improve
I think itâs a pretty good value as it kept my 6-year-old occupied for quite a few days to put it together. He got it as a Christmas gift and immediately fell in love with it, even before opening the box. He did need some help here and there but was able to follow the instructions and do most of the assembly himself. There are two things that could be improved in my opinion. First, it leaves a very rough sometimes pointy bump after breaking off the pieces from the frame, so definitely need to be careful when younger kids are playing with it. Second, the screws are a bit tight even for me, so I ended up helping to make sure all the screws went all the way in. But overall this is a pretty cool toy and the most important thing is my son loves playing with it! If I had the choice I would give 4.5 stars.

Cool but difficult to assemble and not an action toy
Kids that are old enough to assemble this toy on their own will probably be too old to play with it.Kids that are old enough to play with this toy will not be able to assemble it.Once assembled, the Cyborg Hand will not survive any type of “cyborg action play” as it is rather fragile. If your goal is to spend time following assembly instructions and understanding the mechanical operation of this type of device, you have the right product. If your goal is to have a cyborg hand that kids can play with (such as grab items and play pretend robot), you will be disappointed.

While the parts in the box is all complete, the box is dented and the seal is broken. Meant to be a gift for a little boy. Lesson learnt to buy toys from physical stores in the future
