TOSY UltraLED Receives “Glowing” Review
PREFACE: I have enjoyed tossing a Frisbee since I was a kid & still have a couple of the originals floating about, including one of the glow-in-the-dark “Moonlighter” models. There was always something exciting about playing in the dark. I once even had a disk that used a Cyalume lightstick for illumination. Both of these options were fun to toss, but neither was particularly bright. This year while searching for unique gifts, I stumbled upon the TOSY LED disks. I knew right away it was UltraLED all the way, so I wound up ordering 8 of them in various colors, both black & white disks, as Christmas presents. As I had hoped, the kids were blown away & loved them. Here are my thoughts on the TOSY UltraLED 360 LED Ultimate Disk…THE DISKS: The disks are 10.5″ in diameter, weighing in at ~175 grams. They are manufactured from a thick, durable, plastic. White disks are solid white, while the black models are black with a touch of silver speckling visible throughout. Topside sports nice ribbing for grip & structural integrity. The TOSY branding & ring matches the LED color. It is molded into the disk & includes a smart 3-D holographic design that looks really sharp. The rim is a softer material that offers good grip & protects the LEDs.ELECTRONICS: The electronics & controls are well-designed & nicely integrated on the underside. A USB-C port is provided for recharging the integrated 300 mAh Lithium battery (50 mAh on 36-LED models). The charging port is covered by a soft rubber plug to keep out dirt & moisture. The port cover is tethered to the disk to prevent loss. No need to remove the screws. Just grab the edge with a fingernail & pull it open. Replace it fully into the port when charging is complete. The LEDs are embedded around the rim of the main disk, then sealed & protected by a resilient but softer material that offers a nice feel & grip. Black or white disk, the rim is a semi-translucent off-white color. The wires for the LEDs are fully integrated into the plastic & well protected. The disk is said to be waterproof. While I would avoid water if possible, & not leave it in water for extended periods, as long as the USB-port cover remains in place, it should be fine with mild exposure to rain or an occasional dunk. The disks float if they go in the water. Included in the package is a mesh carrying bag, a short USB-C to USB-C charging cable, & an instruction manual. If you don’t have a USB-C power adapter, any USB-A to USB-C supply & cable can be used for charging.CONTROLS & INDICATORS consist of two flush buttons on the electronics module with tiny green LEDs indicating current settings. A Power indicator LED displays available charge level. The left button offer a choice of 6 brightness levels including no light (3 plus no light for the 36-LED models). The right button offers 6 light duration (Timer) modes: 0 (lights only while in the air), 8, 30, 120 seconds after a toss (0 & 8 seconds for the 36-LED version) Both models provide 7″ & 10″ “Ultimate” modes. In Ultimate mode the LED blinks once per second for 7 or 10 seconds, followed by a long blink. The goal in Ultimate is to get rid of the disk before the long blink.36 or 360 LED, both are 175 gram disks. They are well-balanced & fly extremely well. I have to reiterate just how nicely the electronics are designed & integrated. The module is extremely thin & tapered into the underside of the disk. Not saying it can’t happen, but you are unlikely to accidentally hit a button thanks to the flush control buttons.TOSY LISTENS: I just discovered these a couple weeks ago, but I read many of the reviews before ordering. TOSY has been listening to its customers. First, both 36 & 360 models now include “Lost Mode”. In any light mode except “Off”, & in any timer mode other than “Ultimate” modes, after a toss the disk will flash once per second for 5 minutes. When you pick it up the “Lost Mode” flash will cease. Second, the rim material has been changed to a semi-translucent material that acts as a diffuser to conceal the individual LEDs & distribute the light more uniformly.PHOSPHORESCENT BONUS: On the newest models, not only does the rim act as a diffuser, it is also phosphorescent! It self-illuminates for a time after exposure to light. Great addition TOSY!COLORS: In order of brightness – GREEN, BLUE, PURPLE, RED. Green, Blue, & Red are all vivid & accurately rendered. The Purple model is bright, but to me it has more of a pinkish tone rather than purple. These things are bright & super cool. When you start tossing them people will notice & you can expect lots of curiosity from inquisitive onlookers. You may even find some new friends & participants!CHARGING & USE: Charging a 360 LED model requires 30-45 minutes depending on state of discharge. The power LED blinks green while charging & turns solid green when charging is complete. The power LED is tricolor & also serves as a battery level indicator. Green = Full, Yellow = Medium, Red = Low, Flashing Red = Very Low/Recharge. Brighter settings will deplete the battery faster. In use brighter settings become unavailable as the battery is depleted. The “Extreme” brightness setting is intense & unnecessary for play in total darkness. The default brightness setting is plenty bright. For maximum battery life, choose the lower settings. With Lost Mode now being available & automatic in all but “Ultimate” modes, setting the duration to 0 is fine as you can easily find the disk even in total darkness. This will maximize battery life. At medium brightness, 0 duration, expect 500+ throws on a charge.COLD: Cold weather means the Lithium battery will expire more quickly. Of course cold weather also means you probably won’t be outside for extended periods, so I don’t see this as an issue.DURABILITY: It’s only been a few days, but thus far all the disks are holding up fine, even with a bunch of kids beating on them. Personally, I favor using these on grass but I am picky & don’t like to beat stuff up. How well they hold up with repeated smashes into buildings, trees, or pavement I cannot say? Again, so far so good.AUTO OFF : After 10 minutes of non-use, the indicator lights will go dark & the disk will enter Standby Mode. To reactivate it, press any button or just toss it. It will always return to the default settings after waking up. To force it off right away, press & hold either button until the lights turn off. This places it in Standby Mode.LOCK MODE: To save battery life & force the disk into LOCK MODE so it can’t wake up from bouncing around or extraneous movement, PRESS & HOLD BOTH BUTTONS for several seconds until the indicators flash & go dark. To exit LOCK MODE. press any button so the indicators light up, then toss the disk.CUSTOMER SERVICE: In the course of ordering all these disks from Amazon I wound up receiving one of the older pre-Lost Mode models. Obviously I wanted all of them to have the Lost Mode feature so I contacted TOSY on Facebook. They responded quickly, were extremely pleasant, & shipped me the latest model as a replacement direct from the factory. Thank you very much TOSY!PROS: Bright, Cool, Wow, Awesome! If you enjoy tossing a disk in the dark, this is THE ONE! Great customer service.CONS: None so far.CONCLUSION: Yes these are expensive compared to a plain disk, but well worth it. The electronics are well-designed with excellent integration & features. The disks fly well. Your kid can be an overweight, sedentary, couch-tater, lost in the insane world of Tik-Tok or robbing & running down old ladies in the latest iteration of GTA. Or they can be outside getting some fresh air & much-needed physical activity. I’m a fan of the “you only live once” philosophy, so I opted for the 360 LED versions. If that is a bit much, save some coin & go for the 36-LED model. Either way, the TOSY LED & UltraLED Ultimate Disks offer a lot of fun & a whole new way to enjoy tossing a disk!

Great item
The disc worked perfectly exactly as promised. What was the best feature is the effect on the grandkids- they LOVE IT! They want to stay out all night. They could play it for hours. Better effect and more fun than expected. Highly recommend.

So fub
This disc is awesome and so fun!! But As with any electric item there is room for error. My first disc stopped working(which completely surprised me because you can tell itâs made very well) working just outside of the time I could return on Amazon. So I emailed the company and they responded very promptly and I had a new disc 2 days later. AMAZING Customer Service!! But the disc itself is just awesome!!

Won’t unlock. EDIT: GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, but 50% failure rate for Ultra 360 Green
Cannot unlock the locked mode, followed the directions, hit any button, throw 15+ feet and nothing. After fully charging, of course and tried multiple times at longer distances. Now it just has the tiny green “on” light, but won’t respond to anything. This is now an expensive normal frisbee. Was a gift for my son and he was pretty disappointed. Also, it doesn’t have an “off” switch. You can choose “no light”, but after it goes into sleep mode, it resets and will start lighting up if jostled. Whoever designed this must have skipped the part that EVERY SINGLE ELECTRONIC DEVICE SHOULD HAVE. An on/off option. Just wow.UPDATE: reached out to Tosy, had a very good experience with their customer service, they’re sending models to test for functionality and gave me a full refund. I’m getting three disks to try, since I had such a bad experience and this will help me test it for them. Will update when I receive the disks.Update 8/29/2024:A bit of good and bad. This review was a 1 star to begin with, but it was raised due to excellent customer service. And some caveats if you are buying, since there are some options and one is a clear loser that would still have 1 star.Tosy sent me three disks to try, free of charge, since it was a faulty present for my son. A 360 Ultra Green, a 360 Ultra Blue and and their new RGB that has 36 RGB lights on the rim.Very cool of them, their customer service is top notch. Their product consistency is not, though. I’ve now had 4 discs, 2 of them failed, both the Ultra Green 360 discs. I would stay away from that particular product and have sent Tosy a message that they should have a recall. They even said they’ve had issue with that model. It should be taken off the storefront and they need to talk to their factory about defects.I think it might have to be an issue with the charging. I don’t think it regulates the charge when full, because the green one stopped working when I used a wall charger, vs the other two are still working (it’s only been ONE DAY) when I charged them with portable chargers on the way to the park that automatically shut down charging when full.So I would HIGHLY suggest only using a portable charger (power brick/block, nothing directly plugged into the wall) to recharge these. These should have a warning if that is the issue. And not everyone has such chargers. And these discs don’t come with a specific charger, so who would know?As to the pics, the one where there is only the “on” light (first picture) was the green one that died after only one day of use and a second charge seems to have killed it. BOTH green ultras did this. Both the exact same way, used my cell charger, and they no longer work. I’ve used my cell charger for everything with a usb type-c, it’s an official Samsung charger. NEVER had a problem before with any device, ever, until this.Pros: VERY fun and VERY bright. Intuitive and good settings (besides a true on/off setting). Kids loved them. Spectacular customer service! They were very fast to “fix” the issue, though the color I liked most (green on a white disc), seems to be a defective product. The blue and white and the black rgb both still work fine, but I haven’t charged them a second time, yet… so there’s still a chance they don’t last. But fun while they lasted. The Ultra Blue and Green are VERY bright and I love the look of them. The continuous LEDs make it look like you’re in the TRON universe, and they even come with little bags that can be worn like backpacks, so you kind of feel like you are in the Grid. Would be great for cosplay. The RGB was fun, and when spinning, you can barely tell that it has 10x less LEDs, but it is significantly less bright. But LOTS of options, since it also has color options (you can choose dynamic colors, 2 rainbow options, choose a single color) on top of brightness and modes (like Ultimate with a countdown blink). It also has a mode where once it lands and the light goes off (if you have a short timer setting, like a second or 8 seconds), it will blink brightly for a while. Great if it went into a tree so you could see it even if you had a short timer setting. Very clever!Lastly, the rim glows in the dark after being charged by blue light (or UV), so the blue model and the rgb glowed after being used, the green barely did, as green light must not have as much of a reaction. Another reason the green was a dud, but I didn’t know of this feature, so it was a little bonus. It’s the last picture, I shined a UV light on it, but it will do this itself for the blue and RGB. Pretty cool, helps you find it in the dark if the light goes out (though it also has that “find lost disc” feature with the blinking)! The balance and flight is excellent, exactly like any other 175g ultimate disc! Easy to throw and catch, stabilizes very well, just a good disc, overall. Seems sturdy/durable, but have only had it for a day. But nothing rattles or seems like it would fall apart from prolonged use.Cons: VERY high failure rate for one particular model. 2 out of 4 I got, and 3 were sent by a Tosy rep. That’s recall territory. Specifically the Ultra 360 Green (white plastic). No actual OFF option. This is a terrible design flaw and I’m baffled as to why they wouldn’t have this. After your disc goes to “sleep” after 10 minutes, it resets to the base settings, so will light back up, draining the battery or if it was in your car seat next to you while driving back home at night, might get jossled and emit a near blinding light. So, kind of dangerous if you didn’t know “No light” does not mean “off, since the setting resets after 10 minutes…. Yes, even if you chose “No Light”. I tried multiple times to see if it was user error. Horrible, horrible design flaw. It is truly baffling, as almost every electronic device in existence has an off switch! It also seems there is an issue where it won’t regulate the charge, so may overcharge and kill your disc. This is what I believe happened with the two that failed, they were stuck with the “on” light lit, but nothing else works. First picture shows this. Another major design flaw. Especially for an up to MSRP $100 disc.I’d say buy it for yourself, as you can reach out to customer service and they’re very easy to work with if you have a problem. But I would probably never buy this as a gift again, because there’s a fairly high chance it fails and they just throw it away and don’t tell you, because it was a gift. If I had bought this for my niece instead of my son, she would have just been a sad child and her parents would have been too nice to have told me that it was junk, not knowing that I could call customer service and have it fixed in only a few days. Again, their CS is spectacular.Oh well. I’ll update if the other two fail, but for now they’re fun.

Works as advertised
Just like the title says, it works as advertised. Multiple modes to choose from, good weighting, very bright at night with different brightness setting options. Easy to recharge, tons of fun!

Company replaced a bad one with a good one
Edit: Received a replacement and i can say The company took care of a bad one . The one received worked in all modes all colors never flickered , never skipped a beat . The frisbee itself is perfect size and weight and flyâs really well and even did on the bad unit. But the colors and lights i bought it for make it so much cooler. All i can say is the company itself is awesome, and the frisbee itself is a work of art for camping, beach or even park evenings. Gave full stars and most of that comes from great customer service. End Edit)â¦..Worked first time out after charge , then recharged would work in bright mode , now flickers and very bi polar at best. Wouldnt waste my money if your looking. Also never played on asphalt or had any hard hits and never seen water only a month old and been used three nightsâ¦.

What an amazing freesbee. I’ve had a few other “lighting” freesbee in the past but it was never WOW… this one is. It just brings a new dimension to the game.I love the super bright setting for playing in daylight. At night, you must dim it down because it is almost too bright. So on the lower setting it is just perfect. The kids love it and it even got my wife to get in the game as well. This was a great buy. I recommend 100%. In my opinion it is totaly worth it.Have fun!
