Loved it!!! Butâ¦
Loved it so much I had to have it in my collection! Itâs just good entertainment! I received the book in good condition. Problem was it smelled like it was stored in grandmaâs basement for years! Good news is after airing it out for a couple of months it smells a lot better. Happy for the most partð¬ð

I actually really liked it even though alot of people didn’t!
Toys…I was confused at first reading this book. I had to re-read the beginning of it at first. (but this was probably because I read the preview a month or so before I read the whole book) I wasn’t clear what the story was about only because I like to be surprised about what is going to happen in the story. Anyway, I really liked the book. It was kind of scifi, kind of new age. This would be a good Youth book as well. It kind of had a Daniel X feel to it. Once again I really liked it. There were a few chapters in the beginning that just happened fast from getting to one scene to another. There were lots of elements of surprise and needless today it was a great read and it kept me very interested. Heather

Mediocre
First of all I am a avid James Patterson fan. I read ALL his books and have enjoyed them so much that I can’t put it down until I am finished. His books are riveting and draw you in from the first few pages to the last page. That said, I have to say this book is not the usual Patterson book. Yes it is a futuristic book but he has written those before and I still loved them. I was struggling with reading this one. When I had time to read I would think of other things to do and that is not how his other books were for me.I am not going to re-write what this book is about. You can read all the other comments to find that out. I just wanted to say that I am glad I got the free preview. I almost purchased it so I could finish…..and I would have finished it but it would have taken me awhile…however at $14.99 price for an E-book I decided it wasn’t worth it. I can’t say that I didn’t like the book at all and if the price were more like $8 I would probably have bought it and finished it at a later time. But until then I am saving my money.

A Well Written Story Read By A Smooth, Talented Voice
If ever you wanted Matt Bomer to read you a bedtime story, here’s your chance! Personally, I listened to it driving back and forth to work over a few days, and his warm voice surrounding me on my car speakers was very enjoyable indeed. He has a pleasing voice, good cadence, and does a great job conveying the varying emotions and making his voice sound different for the different characters. The story is interesting and moves along at a good pace. The author paints a plausible picture of a possible future where humans have been usurped as rulers of the planet because we almost destroyed it. There are a couple of interesting plot twists, plenty of action, and the hero is a bit of a thinking man, which is always a plus.

The Lamest Effort Ever — Come On, Jim
Background— OK, I like James Patterson’s style. I didn’t like it early on, but over the years it grew on me. Alex Cross has been fine for a long time, with some occasional great stories (Alex Cross’s Trial.) I never was able to get into the ‘fantasy stuff’ –flying kids and all. The Women’s Murder Club was OK, but got a bit stale. Where Patterson (and his co-authors) really grabbed me (usually) were the non-series fiction efforts, with my all time favorite being The Quickie. So here comes Toys. OMG !!! This is Patterson’s lamest effort ever. As one reviewer correctly put it, the book is annoying — and annoying on many different levels. The characters never make it off the ground. They are underdeveloped to the point where not a single one stirs any emotion. In this book, Humans are derisively called ‘Skunks’ by the Elites. Well, that wasn’t that cute the first time it was used, but ramming it down our throats about 8000 times throughout the book is just plain torture — we got it after the second time, Jim. And, of course, there is the patented Patterson fault of turning a clever phrase, which is admittedly clever the first time, then using it four or more times throughout the book to MAKE SURE we recognize the nice turn of a phrase. I could go on, but you get the drift.I tried to like this book, I really did, After reading it I even spent some time in substituting some oppressive and oppressed groups throughout covolization into the roles of Elites and Skunks (er, Humans,) thinking that maybe there was an intellectual quality to the story that had escaped me. Nope.BUT THEN I GOT IT.The one thing that is foreshadowed throughout the book, and actually seems like it may be worth waiting for, is a manner of killing that is termed The Slow Death. Finally, at the beginning of Chapter 115 (page 354) we learn that “SLOW DEATH EQUALS SLOW TORTURE.” Huh ? Probably could have figured that one out, Jim. And then it hit me. This is a true interactive novel, where the reader has been unknowingly subjected to the same fate throughout the reading of this book as one of the main characters suffers at the end — a slow, mind-numbing process that, at its conclusion, leaves one devoid of intellect or reason. GENIUS !!!Save your money on this one, and hope that co-author Neil McMahon’s Montana home is on highly defensible ground, because the pitchforks and torches may be around the corner.
