It just WORKS, and really well
I can’t ride outdoors in winters here in the northeast as it’s just too cold, and even running got to be too unpleasant the older I got, so I decided to start riding indoors on a trainer. I had an old and very basic wheel-on “dumb trainer”, but it was noisy and clunky and resistance couldn’t be controlled so it wasn’t suitable for everyday use, so I decided to get a direct drive smart trainer, and ended up choosing the Core because it was the least expensive one I found that was well-regarded.And I’m so happy that I did. It’s very easy to set up, both initially and before each training session, folding up nicely and storing well between uses. Installing a cassette was no different from installing a cassette on a wheel, and I already had all the necessary tools as I do all my bike maintenance. Same with connecting the bike to it, takes just seconds, especially since I keep the rear wheel off between uses since I don’t ride outside in winter. Then it’s just plug in the adapter, fire up whatever app you’re using (I mostly use Zwift but also Rouvy and MyWhoosh), pick an event, race, workout or route, and off you go.Which brings me to the main point, that actually using it is such a pleasure. It’s really quiet, much quieter than the drivetrain and even fan, and with a mat shouldn’t cause floor vibrations at all (I use a single interlocking foam mat from a set of 4 I got at Harbor Freight for under $10), and the feel is super-smooth and refined, like riding on fresh blacktop, and is as smooth as your drivetrain is (which you should of course keep cleaned and well-lubed and replace parts as needed). Resistance transitions due to changing virtual terrain or workout intensity levels are smooth as well, nothing jerky at all.I’ve already put in more than 300 miles on it and have absolutely no complaints. And it looks nice too! I just ordered Zwift’s Play controllers (you can only buy them directly for $99) to be able to use their new virtual shifting feature, where you no longer have to physically shift and it’s all done in software, resulting in smoother and quiet shifts and a wider range of gearing. I’ll post an update when I’ve had a chance to use them for a while. They also allow you to steer, brake and interact with Zwift without having to use a mouse, keyboard or phone, which is awkward while riding.If you’re looking to get into indoor cycling and prefer a direct drive trainer and don’t want to spend too much, this is basically the only viable choice as Zwift has discontinued its line of trainers (you can find them on sale though as they sell out existing inventory and they promise to support them for at least a couple more years if you’re willing to chance it), and they weren’t quite as good as the Core. All other options are much more expensive and have features that most people probably don’t need, like more precise power readings, higher max watts and incline (like most people will ever exceed 1800W or want to ride up a greater than 16% incline), and forward or side to side movement.Just get it. You won’t regret it.

Awesome but doesn’t jive with garmin head unit
Works great with zwift but my garmin 1030 plus gets stuck in ERG mode (constant resistance) and is unable to simulate grade on a virtual course. You can only ride courses using a wahoo head unit

Easy to install and quiet trainer
No complaints. Everything was perfect with it, been using it for 1 month now. I ordered it to Mexico City (fast shipping) and took no more than a week to arrive. Instalation guide is very clear, remember to buy your back wheel cassette because it is not included. To avoid buying cassette installation tools I suggest taking your trainer and new cassette to local bike shop so they can install it (installation takes 2 mins).

Handcycle review
OK, I ride handcycles and recently got this. Like all trainers for a handcycle you need to mount it upside-down. How you do this is up to you.That said it comes with different spacers for your hub size, most handcycles are around 132 and it’s simple.I also use a 12 speed cassette and this requires you to get an optional driver from Wahoo. If using an e-thirteen cassette you will also need a 2mm spacer.Attaching is tricky but can be done easy enough. I sit on the floor with the handcycle set back a bit then pull it towards me to line up with the dropouts. Any little adjustments can he made from the back. I use a Force RX but know people with Carbon Bikes that use these as well.Installation of the app is fast and simple and a few steps to tell it the size wheel cassette etc as well as software updates.You will also need to do a calibration of it that is simple enough.Then set it up with your bike computer, Zwift etc and you are ready to go.Operation in Zwift is smooth and surprisingly realistic. Before I used a wheel on smart trainer and it was not.It is for the most part quiet and this is where I drop it down by 1 star as from time to time the flywheel makes some racket.Overall I highly recommend it.

Our previous exercise bike gave up the ghost, we considered several options. We settled on the KICKR, once set up there is no comparison with our previous exercise bike. The KICKR provides a great workout, we are very satisfied.

Upgraded from a Tacx Flux S – WOW!
If you are on the fence about taking the plunge, this trainer would be the one to try. For $500, it may be a bit steep at first, but it will provide huge benefits to supplement cycling training.I have been using a Tacx Flux S since October of ’19, and I decided to get the Kickr Core because I might be traveling with a trainer soon. The Kickr is lighter, easier to assemble, easier to connect to a phone, feels MUCH smoother, and offers better power smoothing while riding in erg mode. This was a fantastic upgrade. The articles are right by saying that this will serve beginners and experienced cyclists well. I can’t stress enough that the steadier power modulation has improved workouts after switching.

The Wahoo Kickr Core I received is well made and easy to put together, following the manual and on line instructions & video. I bought a Shimano 105 11/32T cassette as the Kickr core does not come with a cassette, it is the same as the one on my bike so no adjustments are required. I also had to buy a shimano cassette removal tool and chain whip. The App download was straight forward. I am new to this and there is a lot to take in and you can use Strava and several other programs with this. I bought this to replace my worn out fluid trainer. This is very quiet in comparison, all you can hear is the chain. I am relatively new to bike training/riding so after 30years of sedentary work, I am starting off steady and building up my fitness slowly which I found useful for losing weight, I just set the app to Power Level, set the power level and hit Start. The app shows you different variables like distance travelled, speed and cadence which are measured on the Kickr Core. 5 stars for this unit.
