The most important and useful asana book I own!
I’ve been running Yoga Teacher Training Programs for over a decade. This book is required reading for both my 200 and 500 hour RYT graduates. It’s a must have for any serious practitioner or teacher of authentic yoga.

    Great book
Love this book. I used it for both of my yoga teacher trainings. Very detailed with great explanations and breakdowns written by a great master teacher.

A holistic approach to yoga practice
I purchased this book a number of years ago, when training to become a yoga teacher, and still refer back to it as needed, whether I’m looking for a thoughtful and logical asana sequence, or a way to remedy some type of ailment for a student. What I like is that each explanation of postures is accompanied by breathwork, which is so crucial, and, in may cases, the author gives specific examples of his own clients from his years of study and application. Though most of this book focuses on physical postures, it is clear that the author is also keenly aware of the higher aspects of a daily yoga practice, and gives the reader a roadmap to begin a therapeutic journey into bettering themselves.

Content 5 stars, condition of “new” book questionable.
I just started yoga and my instructor recommended this book. I love it, very clear instructions and and the pictures really help. I do wish they would name the poses (like table top, sun salutation, warrior 1, etc instead of the words I can’t understand) for yoga dummies like me.As far as the condition of this book…it was advertised as NEW but there were handwritten check marks in it. No big deal but still, if I had wanted a used one, I would’ve bought a used one and paid $5 less.

    Therapeutic Yoga at it’s best!
The teaching of yoga and the practice of yoga can be two very different things. As a student and practitioner of yoga I’m drawn to the Power Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga side of things but the patients I serve and many seeking the benefits of yoga require a more individualized and clinical approach that Viniyoga and Gary Kraftsow address with a more prescriptive approach to yoga. The emphasis on leading movement with breathe is also an important feature.

This is one of the best yoga books that I have
This is one of the best yoga books that I have. It is a perfect study guide for those just starting out and want to learn more about yoga and the proper alignment methods, or even for those in teacher training programs.

    My favourite personal practice reference
I highly recommend this book for viniyoga practitioners. It is clear, concise and methodic. It offers examples and series of movement and asana that can be practically applied to a range of ability and agility. Highly recommended.

    Excellent photos.
Insufficient information on how to tie breathing with asanas. Maybe over my proficiency level. Author knows subject matter thoroughly.

Purchased a book in “good” condition and I would say it was actually “excellent”. Other than a few scratches on the cover it’s like new.

This is one of the best yoga books I’ve read yet (and, as a yoga teacher, I’ve read a lot!). The book is mainly focused on asana, and as the title suggests is about cultivating wellness through yoga. The yoga he practices and teachers (viniyoga) is not the dramatic aesthetics of today’s Western craze, but it IS about getting to the nitty gritty of a physical practice (and he does of course include reference to other aspects of yoga as he goes). He focuses a lot on spinal health and mobility, using the spine as an anchor for not only the postures but the breath.I’ve only had the book for a few weeks and have already incorporated some of this ideas and sequences into my classes – with some great feedback. He includes lots of sequences and variations, for a number of different potential ailments. His wealth of experience and knowledge shines through and it’s refreshing to have a yoga asana book on my shelf that i know i’ll repeatedly use.
