loaded with information a good buy I am pretty sure after reading that section of the manual, I could make my own derailleur starting with how to mine the ore I need to make the metal to make a derailleur from scratch 🙂 Seriously though, if you are JUST getting started, or if you have not done your own work in a LONG time this book can be a bit daunting, but it has the information you need… somewhere. My old bike was MUCH easier to maintain than my current one, but my “new” bike was a competition level bike a smidge over a decade ago when it was new… my old one had v-brakes, friction shifting, coil over non-adjustable rear shock… by the standards of when I rode it it was out dated, by todays standards it is seriously primitive. now I have hydraulic disk brakes, dropper post, pneumatic shocks, ratcheting shifter… in all bikes are much more complex than when last I worked on them… It is going to be a learning curve.I personally Recommend this book (or the road bike version if needed as there are separate versions for the different styles of bike)If you want EVERYTHING you could possibly need, consider these three books:Zinn and the art of… (of course I am going to recommend this book even with my comments above about information overload)Bicycling Magazine Complete book of Bicycle Maintenance and Repair (my old book)andPark Tools Big Blue Book (the professionals reference manual)
I have been doing my own bike maintenance since I was in grade school… I had a different manual a couple decades ago, but I had not ridden in a li’l over a decade and just got a new (ish) bike. I now have things like hydraulic brakes, and dropper posts, so I figured it was time for a new maintenance manual. Zinn was one of the top rated manuals, so I figured I would grab it.WOW… Information overload. I am sure this book tells you almost everything you need to know to be a professional bike mechanic, but it can be a bit hard to find the exact piece of information you need when you need it. I do not feel it is the best organized, but that could just be my logic vs someone else’s logic. no two brains work alike and all that. I needed to adjust the derailleur on my mountain bike when I bought it… I ended up going to the internet for the information I needed after finding EVERYTHING about derailleurs EXCEPT what I was looking for.

Better than YouTube
This book will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about bicycle maintenance and repair, and a lot that you didn’t know you needed to know. It’s written in a clear and straightforward manner with hundreds of excellent illustrations that make it easy to visualize and understand even some of the more complex maintenance tasks. The information is easy to find thanks to a comprehensive index in the back, so you’ll be able to locate what you need faster than doing an internet search, and working on a bike with a book at your side is a lot easier than it is trying to scroll through a website on your phone.

Written by a real master bicycle mechanic.
I heard this manual was good. Its better than that, its superb. Mr. Lennard Zinn is a master at his craft. I have bikes that are 30+ years old and a couple that are only a year or two old. This book covers everything. I am able to work on older retro components as well as the newest components. Lots of pictures and his explanations on how to achieve your goal of bike maintenance are excellent. Its written technically but in a way that anybody can understand. Mr. Zinn explains what can and cant be done by the everyday home bike mechanic as some things are better left for professionals who have the proper expensive tools. If you are so inclined to spend the money on those tools he tells you what to do to fix just about any bike issue short of actually repairing the frame. Wish I had this book sooner, I bought a couple other fair manuals but this is the Bicycle Repair Bible for everyday mechanics. Thank you Mr. Zinn.

Don’t rely on just YouTube videos get this book
I wanted the book but figured I was wasting my money as I’d end up at a Youtube video in addition any way. I consider this book one of two essentials to doing even the most basic repairs. I’m the guys who hates tuning and repairing his bike because all I do is make it worse. No more! The inability to get a bike turned around for tuning and repair in a reasonable time (due to shop’s demand and restrictions due to Covid) has driven me to doing the repairs and tuning on our household of 7 bikes. I was successful so far. I am very impressed with this book. So, buy this book if you are looking at it. Oh, and go buy the second essential item – a bike repair stand. I think the lower end $45 ones are worth it for even the most casual use. I’ll never not own one again.

Livro bem completo, com muitos diagramas (não fotos). Não sou mecânico de bike, comprei o livro para me ajudar em algumas manutenções simples que eu mesmo faço. Vale a pena. Outro livro bom é o Blue Book do Calvin Jones (da Park Tool). Mas, não sei porque a Amazon cobra imposto de importação para o livro do Calvin.

Sorted out several bike problems for me
