SMK has introduced the first energy-harvesting module to replace the CR2032 coin cell battery. This module integrates solar energy harvesting with Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3 for low-power communication, eliminating battery replacements in remote controllers and sensors. Its compact design fits into existing coin cell battery slots, combining a battery, PV cell, communication circuit, and sensors within the same space. It also supports wireless power transmission (WPT) via an external antenna, making it suitable for locations with limited solar power. The company claims that the module can be used in automotive key FOBs, bicycle systems, IoT trackers, PC peripherals, and remote controllers, among other applications.
The product is useful for electronics manufacturers, smart home and IoT developers, industrial automation companies, healthcare device manufacturers, retail and logistics firms, and automotive and smart mobility providers. It enables battery-free power solutions for remote controllers, sensors, medical devices, RFID tags, asset trackers, and connected vehicle systems, making it ideal for long-term, maintenance-free applications.
