With advanced features, versatile temperature ratings, and support for PCIe Gen 4.0, they excel in automotive, industrial, and data center environments, ensuring reliable and scalable connectivity for modern high-performance computing systems.

Efficient data transfer and seamless device communication are vital for automotive, industrial, and data center systems. To meet these demands, Microchip Technology introduces the new PCI100x family of Switchtec PCIe Gen 4.0 switches, offering robust scalability, reliability, and low-latency connectivity for modern High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems.
The PCI100x family includes the PCI1005, a packet switch that expands a single host PCIe port to six endpoints, and the PCI1003, which supports multi-host connectivity via Non-Transparent Bridging (NTB). Fully configurable for 4–8 ports, these devices comply with the PCI-SIG Gen5 specification and deliver speeds up to 16 GT/s. Additionally, all variants support high-speed Direct Memory Access (DMA), ensuring rapid data movement across devices.

Advanced features like Automatic Error Reporting (AER), Downstream Port Containment (DPC), and Completion Timeout Synthesis (CTS) enhance system reliability and performance. The available temperature ratings are:
- Commercial Grade: 0°C to +70°C.
- Industrial Grade: −40°C to +85°C.
- Automotive Grade 2: −40°C to +105°C.
- Versatility: Suitable for diverse applications across industries.
“The PCI100x family delivers cost-effective solutions without compromising performance or reliability, empowering designers to bring PCIe switch capabilities to mass-market automotive and embedded computing,” said Charles Forni, vice president of Microchip’s USB and networking business unit.
Microchip’s portfolio extends beyond PCIe switches to include Flashtec NVMe controllers, Ethernet PHYs, timing solutions, and Flash-based FPGAs, serving storage, automotive, industrial, and communications markets. The PCI1005 and PCI1003 are available in limited sample quantities, with pricing for the PCI1005 starting at $43 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
