The Edge AI module helps devices run AI and video tasks, use less power, and connect quickly. It works for robots, drones, and smart cameras.

Lantronix Inc., a compute and connectivity solutions provider for IoT and Edge AI, has introduced the Open-Q 8550CS System-on-Module (SOM). Built on the Qualcomm Dragonwing QCS8550 processor, this production-ready module delivers low-power, on-device AI and ML capabilities, streamlining development and accelerating the launch of edge products.
Designed for demanding AI/ML applications in extreme Edge computing, the Open-Q 8550 supports advanced video processing, video collaboration, transcoding, camera applications, and Edge AI gateway integration. Like other Lantronix embedded compute platforms, it offers a complete solution with hardware, software, device management, and services to speed up time to market. The platform is well-suited for industrial-edge AI applications, including drones, controllers, robotics, and handheld devices across warehousing, manufacturing, transportation, logistics, and retail industries.

The module enhances video conferencing, automated guided vehicle navigation, smart camera image quality, and Edge AI box scalability with its octal-core computing and 48 AI TOPS tensor performance. It supports complex 3D rendering and computer vision tasks using an Adreno 740 GPU with ray tracing, OpenGL ES, Vulkan, OpenCL profiles, and high-resolution video decoding and encoding. Additionally, it enables high-speed connectivity for Edge AI boxes with 2.5G and 10G Ethernet ports.
Key features of the SOM include:
- Low power consumption with a 4nm process
- Kryo Octa-core CPU up to 3.2 GHz and Adreno A740 GPU
- Dual eNPU delivering 48 INT8, 12 FP16 TOPs
- Up to 8GB LPDDR5 RAM + 128GB UFS Flash
- Multiple MIPI camera and display ports
- Support for Qualcomm Sensing Hub 3.0
