It now offers improved error vector magnitude (EVM) for 5G NR FR3 research and demanding RF tasks, along with a new RF linearization option for optimizing EVM at high power.
Rohde & Schwarz has unveiled the latest enhancements to its vector signal generators, introducing significant upgrades to the flagship R&S SMW200A and its midrange counterpart, the R&S SMM100A. Both models feature advanced performance and a refreshed interface designed to meet modern wireless technologies’ demands.
The R&S SMW200A, renowned for tackling the most demanding applications, now includes revamped microwave hardware that delivers improved error vector magnitude (EVM) performance and higher output power, especially in frequencies above 20 GHz. These advancements directly address the needs of 5G NR FR2 research as well as RF component and module testing.
The key features include:
- Enhanced EVM performance up to 44 GHz (up to 8 dB).
- Built-in RF linearization with a wide frequency range (up to 67 GHz).
- Easy operation without external software.
A key addition to this upgrade is the R&S SMW-K575 RF linearization software option, which leverages digital pre-distortion technology. This solution optimizes EVM at high output power, ensuring superior accuracy and stability across the entire frequency range, even for complex modulation schemes.
These enhancements are also reflected in the R&S SMM100A, the midrange complement to the R&S SMW200A. The R&S SMM100A now offers a new low phase noise option, R&S SMM-B709, enabling EVM performance better than –53 dB for IEEE802.11be signals with a 320 MHz bandwidth. This upgrade reinforces its position as a best-in-class midrange vector signal generator.
Existing users of previous R&S SMW200A and R&S SMM100A models can benefit from these performance improvements. Rohde & Schwarz provides retrofit options through a simple service and calibration process, allowing customers to access the latest capabilities without investing in new hardware.
Gerald Tietscher, Vice President of Signal Generators, Power Supplies, and Meters at Rohde & Schwarz, stated: “With rising data rates and complex modulation schemes, achieving low EVM is crucial for stable and robust wireless connectivity. The advancements in our R&S SMW200A and R&S SMM100A signal generators highlight our commitment to enhancing signal generation excellence.”
