S32G Vehicle Networking Reference Design 3 Top View

The S32G-VNP-RDB3 from NXP Semiconductors is a compact reference design board built around the S32G399A vehicle network processor. It offers high-performance computing and extensive input/output (I/O) capabilities, making it suitable for automotive applications such as service-oriented gateways, high-performance central compute units, ADAS and autonomous driving safety controllers, FOTA master control, vehicle data logging, security services, key management, and smart antennas. Automakers, suppliers, and software partners can leverage this board to accelerate development and reduce time to market.

Modern vehicles use computing and networking technologies to enhance performance, safety, and connectivity. One key component is the Automotive Access Point, which ensures seamless wireless communication within the vehicle. Additionally, an Automotive Data Logger plays a crucial role in recording and analyzing vehicle data for diagnostics and performance monitoring.

The Automotive Zone Controller and Zonal Gateways manage different sections of a vehicle’s electronic architecture, optimizing efficiency and reducing wiring complexity. Central Compute and Domain Controllers are the vehicle’s brain, handling critical computing tasks and integrating various electronic functions.

To keep vehicle software up to date, Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) enables remote updates, improving security and functionality without requiring a visit to a service centre. Gateway and In-Vehicle Networks facilitate communication between different electronic components, ensuring smooth data exchange across the system.

Safety remains a priority with Safety Processors, which manage essential safety functions and help comply with automotive standards. Meanwhile, a Service-Oriented Gateway supports connected vehicle services, enabling real-time data exchange with external systems. Finally, vehicle computing enhances processing power for advanced applications, making modern vehicles smarter and more efficient.

Designed for vehicle computers, service-oriented gateways (SoG), and domain control applications, the S32G-VNP-RDB3 supports high-performance processing, safety, and security requirements. It is powered by octal Arm Cortex-A53 cores (with optional cluster lockstep) and quad, dual-core lockstep Arm Cortex-M7 cores, providing strong computing power, extensive I/O, real-time network performance, multi-Gigabit packet acceleration, and advanced security features for automotive applications.

The system supports service-oriented gateway (SoG) and domain controller applications, enabling efficient data management and communication between different vehicle domains. It features multiple network interfaces, including 18 CAN/CAN FD and 12 Ethernet ports, ensuring high-speed connectivity. Additionally, it supports a low-power mode with multiple wake-up sources, optimizing energy efficiency while maintaining responsiveness.

The hardware includes two M.2 module slots (M-key and E-key) for expandability, allowing for flexible upgrades and additional functionalities. It is designed with safety in mind, achieving ISO 26262 compliance through dedicated safety components and a robust architectural design.
