The power supply series meets stringent cardiac floating requirements, streamlining medical device development with standard, efficient solutions for safe operation.
Advanced Energy has introduced the NCF150 series of AC-DC power supplies. These supplies are designed to meet the cardiac floating (CF) requirements of the IEC 60601-1 medical safety standard, providing isolation and low leakage currents suitable for medical equipment design. The NCF150 series allows designers to use standard products instead of custom solutions, streamlining the development process.
Medical device manufacturers and equipment designers can greatly benefit from these power supplies, as they meet stringent CF requirements and streamline the design process by eliminating the need for custom solutions.
The power supplies are necessary for medical devices that contact the heart, such as dialysis machines and electrosurgery platforms, due to their compliance with the CF classification— the strictest category of medical electrical safety. The series includes features like isolation voltage and low patient leakage current, enabling devices to achieve CF certification more easily.
The series offers models with power outputs up to 150 W and multiple voltage options including 12 V, 15 V, 19 V, 24 V, and 48 V, alongside optional 5 V standby and 12 V fan outputs. Features include patient leakage currents under 10 μA, EMI Class B compliance, 2 MOPP isolation, and a 5 kV defibrillator pulse withstand capability. These power supplies also accept a universal input of 85 to 264 VAC, operate with efficiency over 90 percent at full load, and include protections against overvoltage, overload, overtemperature, and short-circuit conditions. This release marks the debut of the CF-rated family, with more high-power models expected to launch soon.
“Until now, meeting the needs of the CF classification has required time-consuming and costly modification to traditional power supply,” said Shri Chandrasekharan, Advanced Energy’s senior vice president, Medical Power Products. “Now, with the launch of the NCF150 series, Advanced Energy is helping medical OEMs reduce the system level components required for isolation, minimize overall system size and cost, and speed time-to-market.”
